Tea Taste Challenge - Help Appreciated

I take my tea seriously and have taken steps to mimic my excellent tea experience at home, while at work. But I’m running into a problem. Even though I obtain the correct tea temperature, filter my water, and use the same tea and tea accessories in my office, tea made at work tastes less enjoyable than tea I make at home. Can the water, even after being filtered, still be the culprit?

I think the problem is that you’re at work ;)

Yep, there are a lot of factors that come in to play, and we can make it all very complicated by addressing each and every one of them, but I think in the end it mostly comes down to that.

Tea tastes better at work if you are in Steepster chat. Fact.

I don’t think tea brewed at work, where you are not relaxed will ever taste as good as tea at home where you are.

It could be the vessel you use to heat the water. I also don’t have time to really enjoy tea at work, so I bring tea with me that is easy to drink, identify, and forget about :P

What if you try putting water from home in a thermos and taking it with you, at least then you could compare that variable.

I’ve tried this and it does seem to help a little.

I used to drink tea and work…. but then the pilots told me the tanks that hold the water don’t get cleaned often and when they do they don’t flush the system very well

Water can always be a huge factor. Even filtered doesn’t mean you are getting the same water you use at home.

do you heat the water in the same vessel as you do at home?

Odors can affect your sense of taste as well. If you work in a polluted office (dusty, stagnant air, chemicals) your work environment could be having an impact on your tea experience.
