Have any of you tried the Indian oolong teas?

I tried this one: http://www.arborteas.com/organic-makaibari-estate-oolong-tea.html

Wasn’t impressed. Lacks complexity and tasted like a milder black tea.

If Darjeeling oolongs count… I’ve had many. I can even send you a bit to try.

Currently enjoying June 2015 global tea hut tea gift! It’s a beautiful yancha from spring of last year, probably the nicest yancha I’ve tried. Typical yancha flavours, but so smooth and creamy with delicious sweet lychee notes on the finish! Great stuff! Currently don’t have a good vendor for high quality yancha since origin tea closed its doors, Tony had some nice aged stuff :(

Did you read in the magazine how they said you can steep this overnight as you sleep? I’m curious to doing it… but there is so little that I want confirmation that such a thing works. (I’m friends with a tea farmer in China who has high grade yancha but it’s pricey…)

I gave it a try, after a session if like a bajillion steeps (actually 7, which is a ton for a Yancha) and the next day’s tea was mellow, very mineral and a hint of lychee.

I actually like the whole bowl steeping with a couple leaves, such a crazy potent tea.

I’m literally enjoying it the morning after right now! I think the roast comes out way more brewing over night, and I agree about the minerals and lychee. Drinking it with ice because it was room temperature and it’s quite warm out! I’m more interested in what it’ll be like tomorrow morning and the morning after that!

I finally got around to trying some 1988 Aged Ginseng Oolong from Taiwan Tea Crafts. I’ve had aged Oolong before but this was nothing like those. It got me wondering if it’s perhaps because of the age? I believe it is the oldest Oolong sample I have tried.

Has anyone tried any aged Oolong from the 80’s or earlier?

u didn’t say whether u like it or not?

I did enjoy it, even if it did remind me of coffee. It was unique and very pleasant.

Sounds awesome Kitty! The oldest oolong I have tried was from 1991, it was super sweet with notes of chocolates. I am now waiting for 1976 Heirloom oolong from Taiwan Sourcing, can’t wait to try it!

Most of the oolong I’ve had has been from Teavivre. I really like the Big Red Robe tea. Milk oolong is good too. (Think I prefer green.)

I favor Taiwanese oolongs in general, and I love, love, love leafhopper oolongs. Even though I haven’t had that many… >_> But it was really easy to make up mind about Gui Fei and Oriental Beauty (from Green Terrace, Tea Ave, and Sanne Tea). So fruity and juicy!!! I feel excited drinking them, and I never feel that way about anything else, tea-wise.

I still have so many teas to sipdown. If I were to really hone in on something – besides shou – it would be leafhopper oolongs.

Drinking a Shui Xian tonight from O5tea.
This is heavily roasted, tons of mineral notes, and a little drying. I think it’s too much for me. I don’t mind heavily oxidized, and this isn’t really smoky – it’s more of a burned taste. Will try a few more steeps and see if it mellows, but at this point, not my favourite.

I was really pleased to see this thread pop up, since I’ve been neglecting oolong for my new sweetheart, pu-erh. This thread caused me to open up a bag of Teavana Dan Cong that I’d been saving for I don’t know what. It was every bit as good as I remembered, and eclipsed many of the pu-erhs.

Yesterday afternoon I got a delivery from Verdant tea that included their Mi Lan Xiang Phoenix Mountain Dancong, which I am drinking this morning. It is delicious: a complex mix of stone fruit, spice, and I think grape. Wonderful tea that I probably wouldn’t have bought without this thread.

I am going to fill your mailbox with oolongs :)

I just ordered the Uper Fagu Oolong from theteashelf.com. I am fascinated by the name and they say its the finest Oolong tea from the Darjeeling region. Shall update as soon as I try it.
