I am going to do this, nay, need to do this, but I do not need 2 new ounces of tea every month. :) Anyone want to split with me?

Everyone has to be good at something, right? :)

I agree! Temptress! If I were not in the midst of moving I would totally take you up on that offer ;)

It doesn’t say how many teas come in each month for the 2ounces though.
What if they just send 5g of 10 teas?

Good point. I’m still pretty sure I can share. I have so many other teas to drink. :) But it’s a good question.

if you ask/find out, let me know nicole?

I would if I could! I wish I had booked an extra day in Kansas City to experience more of Shang’s tea. I tried the honey-white from Lucky Baby, and it was great!

You are welcome to come visit any time. As long as you can put up with a couple of cats, I even have a spare room. :)

I got a clarification: this will be 2 ounces of one tea each month.

That is a lot when you realize that 4g can probably provide 12 steeps and if you awesome it can last days (puts shades on and looks at everyone on Steepster reading this comment)

If I knew I would get black or white teas I would totally do this.

Well, what I could do is offer up a buy-in here after I get the tea. That way folks don’t have to be in for teas they don’t want and if I get something I’m not interested in, someone else might take it off my hands. :)

i’d be game for that. Given the shit state of the CAD dollar (77 cents these days), i’m less interested in random surprises and more looking at new things that i can weed out stuff i know i won’t like from…if that makes sense.

The first installment is Lightly Roasted Rock Oolong. From the description sent:

“Grown at 2,300 feet on the Xue Shan Mountain (Snow Mountain) in South Fujian, the base material for this Rock Oolong is the highest we have ever encountered. Large shipments of this tea have even been requested from various people on the Wuyi Mountain, home of Rock Oolong. Taking into consideration the quality of the tea leaf, we decided to lightly roast this oolong in order to keep the original tea flavor and nutrients of the tea leaf. Originally Rock Oolongs are roasted at around 140C (284F) for 2 to 3 hours depending on the producer. We decided to roast our Rock Oolong at 110C (230F) for a little over 2 hours, resulting in a more well rounded cup of tea.”

Now… does anyone want some of this tea? I have 1.5 ounces of it that I will send out in 0.5 ounce increments for $7 each plus shipping so that is 3 shares available. I really do not want to spend the time going to the post office many more times for lesser amounts, sorry.

I will send a copy of the Shang Tea staff tasting notes and preparation recommendations with the tea.

If you don’t get 3 people: Feel free to put aside a portion for me to swap, that is if you would like to. I just purchased about $220 of oolong myself just in the last three days with intentions to be used for swaps.

If you don’t get a third taker, I would like some, though it would be at least a week before I could pay, so if three people who have the instant cash can claim before me that is perfectly fine :)

I am in no hurry. I’ve already paid for the 6 month membership so anything I get back and any tea I don’t have to have 2 whole ounces of is a bonus. :) Whenever someone feels like they want some and is in a position to buy, I’ll have it here until it’s gone, well kept of course. :)

Alright. There are two more months that are available now. As before, 0.5 ounces for $7 + shipping.

Rainbow Peony White

“Traditionally, white tea is hand-plucked in the early spring, withered and then sun dried. This white tea however, is hand-plucked in autumn and then processed. The plants during the autumn harvest have endured summer rains, bright sunshine, mist and mountain dew and now contain what is called “autumn golden sun energy.” Teas picked during this time of year are known as Gao Xiang, or high fragrance teas, because of their strong aroma after brewing. Our Rainbow Peony and our Wild White Tea are the only autumn harvested pure white teas we have produced. We call it Rainbow Peony because the color variety in each one of the leaves. Ranging from darker natural tones to brighter green leaves as well. This tea was produced in 2011 and has been aging in our Fujian warehouse ever since.

Tasting Notes: (edited for brevity) Creamy mouthfeel, consistently sweet and creamy the entire way through the 5 steepings. Sweet aroma and naturally floral. Overall explanation impossible."

Yellow Tea Cake – I have not tried this yet and may not want to part with much of it. :) It sounds intriguing.

“Wild harvested on a completely abandoned tea farm at around 2300 feet on Snow Mountain (Xue Shan Mountain) in south Fujian, these leaves have been untouched since the year 2000, resulting in a complexity that is both relaxing and serene but also powerful as the tea is mirroring it’s wild environment. This tea has the cha qi of an ox.

Tasting Notes: (edited for brevity) Super buttery mouth feel, strong pao blossom aroma in initial steepings, lingering fruit notes as cools, very consistent through subsequent steepings, Oriental Beauty like fruity sweetness"

The Rainbow Peony was pretty epic!

And if you are parting with any of the Yellow Tea Cake, I will toss my name in for a small stash of it :)

Ha!! I will take a straw over some of the random hairs I have found in puerh…and that one time I had a ginger orange puerh blend that sprouted moths (gotta love those tiny organic creatures that are too tiny to see until they go through their metamorphosis and sprout beautifully out of a tea stash…or oatmeal)

I am really curious to see how similar to Huang Pian this is, fun fact, I have a serious love for Huang Pian, I don’t care that it is just junk leaves, they taste so good!!

This was a weird tea. I’m not attached to it, so there is some Brick Aged Yellow Tea Cake to share if anyone is interested. I have 57 g left. So, 14-15 g (about 1/2 ounce) for $7 is the going price. :) FYI, the recommendation is 1 tablespoon of leaves per 8 ounces of water. That’s about the whole 15 g. I’m pretty sure less is just fine to use as well.
