Pu-erh steep

My Pu steep came out a golden brown, lighter than what I was expecting. I’m not sure if it raw or ripe, so I rinsed it twice. It still came out good, but just wanted to make sure I got it right. Any suggestions?

It’s a Wymm Tea 2014 Bingo Laozhai Huangpian.

It is huang pian which is the older leaves on the tea bush. The newer leaves are more greenish, so these older leaves are a bit deeper in flavor and color. Very often tea farmers sell the fresh smaller leaves and keep the huang pian for themselves. Many tea blenders feel a mix of some huang pian in a puerh cake adds complexity and makes a better aged tea cake.
