Why do you drink Green Tea?

Hi all! I’m new to steepster and I’m thrilled to find a community of tea lovers! I hope you’re all lovely!

I’m a huge fan of tea (obviously) but really love green teas, they’re my go to tea any time of day. My absolute favourite is a genmaicha, and I especially love the Yame Genmaicha from Postcard Teas in London. It’s such a warming and comforting cup, lovely on a wet and wild day like today! :)

My love of green tea got me thinking – why do you drink green tea? When do you drink it? Do you have a favourite? How do you brew it? Where can the best green teas be found? I really want to expand my green tea knowledge! :)

Yunnan Sourcing while primarily a seller of Puerh tea, sells a lot of green teas. I have had a couple and remember them being good.

Thanks for the tip! Puerhs intrigue me, I have so much to learn, and I’ll check out their green teas too!

are you from London? there’s lots of nice green teas from China and Japan!

why do i drink green? i like the ease of preparing matcha (in a water bottle). though i prefer black teas, i am learning to appreciate the delicate flavors of green, not to mention that it is healthier :)

i drink it whenever…i like steeping my dragonwell grandpa-style – very convenient and love that it does not become bitter (at least not as easily than other greens i’ve tried) :)

my favorite for flavored, i would say sakura sencha (oh but jasmine is sooo nice too and for pure, i will have to go with matcha :D

I’m not a fan of genmaicha either but I love all other kinds of green tea. Check out Teavivre for some good Chinese green tea and O-Cha for Japanese. And for something a little different, try a lightly oxidized green oolong like Baozhong.

Brill thanks, I’ve never had a green oolong, so I’ll track something down! :)

Most genmaicha tastes like burnt rice to me. I did have one recently that was mixed with matcha which was okay but I still couldn’t get past the charred flavor.

yea. genmaicha tastes like i should be eating it with a spoon, not drinking it. :-P

I think some GMCs can taste burnt, but I love the savoury nutty taste of it, it makes a change for all the really sweetly flavoured green teas!

@Lily, you could throw some in the box with my recent order ;) hint hint

Yes, totally an obvious answer. I love all tea, but there’s just something about green tea…

I drink it because it’s good. I drink it all days outside of winter. My favorite is gyokuro when it is like liquid butter. I brew it many different ways. The best green teas can be found anywhere… Taste is subjective so whatever you find to be amazing is best for you.

I’ve seen gyokuro listed before, it’s on my to buy list, but you’ve just made me bump it up to the top!

This is tragic… gyokuro is to sencha like Coke is to Sam’s Club cola…

Would you like me to send you some?

Because I like Genmaicha and Houjicha.

Over the past year or so I’ve become pretty obsessed with matcha. I know some people just see it as a trend here in the states, but I really do think its amazing.

Not only do I love the taste, but I find the way it “delivers” caffeine to be completely different from any other coffee or tea I’ve ever had. You don’t have that quick dump of energy and then come down like other caffeinated products. Instead it seems to “time release” itself. To me, this is way more pleasant, doesnt cause jitters, and even manages to get me “tea drunk” (in a good way of course).

My favorite I’ve found so far is this one: http://www.kenkotea.com.au/products/organic-matcha-premium-grade-30g-tin

If you want to buy it, get it on Amazon – its cheaper.

Anyone have any good recs I might not have tried yet?
