White2Tea "Little Walk" And/Or........

Im about to try White2Tea out for the first time for sheng. I’m looking at the “Little Walk” and “Milk, Cream and Alcohol” as they are cheaper of the selection. Any suggestions on which is better and if they are too similar to purchase both? Any suggestions would be appreciated on W2T’s selection.

Start with the Little Walk and ask for a sample of the MCA.

Thanks! Is the MCA less approachable?

One of my favorites from this year’s w2t is If You’re Reading This… Very smooth and a good price for the quality.

Thanks I’ll try a sample! So its pretty good?

I wish TwoDog would put together a complete 20-25g each sample pack every season for easy one-click ordering. Because I would buy that. I’m going to end up trying everything eventually anyway!

Anyway, to answer the question: you might also consider a sample of Poundcake. I’m a relative newb and I love it – very sweet, flavorful, and not bitter.

SilasSteep said

Yeah I have heard good things about the Poundcake as well. Really considering just getting Poundcake, MCA, and Little Walk.

Save up and buy them all, including 2Late and Poundcake. Yeah I’m not helping.

But hey, the shipping is expensive (and if you are getting the Basics set, you get free shipping) so you might as well make it count.

SilasSteep said

I considered the basics set. Not much info on the profiles of these cakes really. I am considering just sucking it up and buying Poundcake, MCA, and Little walk. I’m too impatient with samples as far as shipping and waiting if I really like them.

The basics set is a pretty good deal, it’s a good intro pu’er as you get different seasons, hp material and one aged. Plus free shipping, and shipping is $15. But yeah w2t = big order.

If you had to choose between Poundcake and 2Late which would you go for?

My advice would be to look at some tasting notes for each one and see if any flavors jump out to you. Both pound cake and 2 late are excellent teas and I would have a hard time choosing between them (so I own several cakes of each lol)

SilasSteep said

thats the way to do it :)…several of each means they can’t be too bad. thanks again.

Personal preference, both are good. I like 2late more myself, but I know many who prefer Poundcake more.

I agree with the owl ^ Also, if you want something with a punch get MCA. If you want something light and a good daily drinker go with Little Walk :)

curlygc said

Ok, when you say “punch” – how do you mean that? Bitter punch? Or cha qi “where the hell did I put my shoes?” punch?

hahah, MCA has a potent Menghai punch, so I mean bitterness. The tea has a nice driving qi, but it’s nothing like an overwhelming tea-drunk. The bitterness does fade by the third steeping or so though.

curlygc said

Gotcha, thanks. Not a huge fan of the bitter, so I may pass on that one. Unless there’s some in the ttb, then I might have to give it a try!

MCA is quite punchy bitter. I didn’t prefer it. Going to let it age for a while before drinking again.

SilasSteep said

So the MCA has some bitterness? Mouth puckering or just character? Would the 2Late be a better choice do you think? I don’t mind some slight astringency but not looking to suck on a grapefruit peel. :) Thanks

Personally, MCA kicked me in the mouth. 2 late is a great tea to drink now.

SilasSteep said

Thanks for the input kieblera5! That doesn’t sound fun. Think I’ll look at getting the 2Late instead.

I’ll be putting some MCa in the box, but the bitterness is too overwhelming. It’s completely up to preference.

boychik said

i vote for 2late ! i’ve had almost all of them by now. MCA is not complex, punchy, but i dont mind bitterness. Poundcake is nice and sweet. but we are all different, get yourself samples before committing to a full size cake.

Thanks for the input everyone! I’m pretty new to pu’erh so advice is much appreciated. I am really into ripes and have only had a few shengs. I am so sucked in that I haven’t touched an Oolong or Black in quite a bit. Is this normal? lol

very normal.. I love my green teas but I find myself not having them for weeks because I’m drinking all the puerh.

Puerh consists of most of my tea consumption. However, I own ridiculous amounts of other teas….

Dr Jim said

The real danger is that you drink so much puerh that all your other teas go stale. I’m forcing myself to drink up my “regular” teas so they don’t all just go bad. Hardly buying any new ones, though.

SilasSteep said

Good to know that I’m not the only one. Yeah, I’m worried my Oolongs will get old but there is only so much tea a person can consume in a day.

curlygc said

Totally normal, lol! I fell down the pu’er rabbit hole a couple of months ago, and it’s pretty much where I live now. I do still have a lot of other tea and I’ve been mostly drinking those at work.

Dr Jim said

I tend to start the day with black tea or oolong and start on the puerh in the afternoon.

I constantly need to remind myself that my sheng will not go bad, and my spring harvest greens will…

I’d also look at some of their mid aged cheaper options. The harsh and bitter aspects of young teas start to fade after a couple of years and the teas mellow out which for me makes it a much easier drink. The 05 rocket Yiwu is a nice sweet mellow tea. I’m not sure about some of his other mid aged offerings but there are plenty of reviews for most of them if not someone might be able to post some quick notes.

I strongly recommend asking the owner for recommendations for some very different samples, so you can figure out which kind of puerh you prefer. That’s personally what I did on my first white2tea order.

Funny enough I’ve just ordered some ‘if you’re reading this…’

I really want to try some good Puer, I’m beginning to enjoy my only cake, which is (I can’t remember) from 2006 now that I’m brewing it Gongfu. My other Puer I’ve found too strong

I hope this doesn’t turn into another thing.oolong is expensive enough!

Grill said

Puerh doesn’t have to be as expensive as oolong. Oolongs are generally pretty pricey. There are plenty of good drinkable puerhs under 25 cents a gram

Rasseru said

Ah thats really good to know

curlygc said

The thing about tea is that there’s always another thing. Too much tea, not enough tea. These are truisms. Also I might be slightly tea drunk at the moment so nevermind….

Rasseru said

You tea drunk? thats the ‘too much tea’ you’re talking about :D

Grill said

Some people have multiple tons (not exaggerating) of tea in their personal collections. Is that too much? :p

Rasseru said

by tons you mean kilos, right? :P

If it’s not at least a kilo, it’s not an order ;)
Remember, cakes are samples.

Rasseru said

I really need to step my tea game up

Grill said

No I mean tons. There are collectors with hundreds to thousands of cakes

curlygc said

Ima stay over here at the kiddie table.

Rasseru said

yeah, i gathered you were serious! :)

Grill said

Haha ok I wasn’t sure. A kilo doesn’t wind up being all that much. I’ll drink a couple this year. A single kilo is only 3 grams a day and I’m willing to bet almost everyone here drinks more than that

Rasseru said

a lot more than that

ahhhh I remember my first kilo (cuts away to day dream)…. :)

laughs …one kilo XD

3gs a day… That would be terrible Dx

curlygc said

And here I am, just sitting at the kiddie table with 3 grams of Baby’s First Sheng. sigh

Grill said

Yeah 3g is a tease. I’ll be over 20 today, though I won’t steep everything out

We’ve all been there. You’re well on your way to your first tong and building a pumidor.

to each their own :) Some are extremists, and some are content.

Don’t mind us addicts looking to buy their next hit with a needle still in the arm

hahah true though…. (brewing right now, as I shop online)

Grill said

I’m cut off from shopping. I got an order from houde and let’s say I hammered that group buy

hahah I’m telling myself to stop and wait for the black friday sale, but it’s looking bleak…

SilasSteep said

You guys have me worried that I may have to seek professional help with this oncoming tea obsession….I was just sifting through a YS shopping cart trying to figure out which cakes could stay or go….needless to say my heavy e-cart has gotten no less heavy. Will I need a sponsor soon to help with the 12 steps or attend meetings? The only real question I guess is, do they have a teapot at these meetings?

Grill said

We call that a doomcart, I’ll see you at the meetings ;)

We’ll save you a seat :)

I admit that I am powerless over my addiction.

Doesn’t mean I’m changing anything :P

Rasseru said

Don’t tell me, all they have is pg tips :shudder:

Rasseru said

Im definitely developing a taste for puehr as well. I knew this would happen! The cake I’ve got doesn’t have any fish smell, tastes like apricots and hay.

I can see how some puehr must be lovely…

Help

There is no help, only more tea. sips tea

I even removed the beeper speaker from my kettle, which is by my bed, (no longer in the kitchen). So now it doesnt make any noise when its ready.

But, as I was always told, if you want to do something, do it properly

hahaah that’s right!
