Not to Consume Tie Guan Yin with Sugar or Mutton

I know medication does not go well with tea.

But this article states Sugar or Mutton shall not be consumed with a specific tea “Tie Guan Yin”.

That is interesting.

I have never heard any of this. If medications did not go well with tea doctors would point that out to people. As to the mutton, perhaps because tea is considered by some to slow digestion.

Nope. No research links so I don’t trust any of those precautions suggestions.

Let’s all have a TGY party and eat mutton, see if the toilet line up isn’t busy.

That article is bunk, but you should wait an hour after eating to have tea as drinking tea right away can interfere with iron absorption. The below is from Teavivre and I’ve seen the same on other heath websites:

http://www.teavivre.com/info/drink-more-will-be-repercussions/
“Try to avoid drinking tea after a meal: Teas contain tannin, especially dark teas which contain higher levels of tannin, which can possibly react to iron in your food. However on the other hand, tea can also help to aide in digestion one hour after the meal, especially Pu-erh tea.”

I like

“Never drink tea on an empty stomach: If you drink tea on an empty stomach, you will not only dilute gastric juices so that you aren’t as able to digest foods as well, but the high absorbency rate of water in the tea will also cause your body to absorb caffeine easily causing you to experience dizziness, stress and possibly even neurasthenia in your hands or feet.”

I’ve noticed this too, pu on an empty stomach gets me ripping tea drunk. This will be my procedure from now on. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

First post, and it links to a site that sells tea. Thinly veiled effort to sell tea?

ha! if you made me choose between my medication and tea.. tea wins everytime.

Luckily his theory is bunk, tea doesn’t interfere with any medications I know of.

true. mixing meds with other meds is what should really be looked at.

I’ve been advised (as has my grandmother who takes a number of daily meds) not to take meds with tea, but I think that is due to a preference that patients take meds with water.

Yes pharmacists are experts on what medicines don’t go with each other and my pharmacist has never advised me not to take my medicines with tea.

neither has my doctor.. i think if i asked him about it, he’d laugh.

ive even down medication with wine/beer because i knew it was safe and all that was in reach.

My family doctor always reminds me not to take medication with coffee or tea.

maybe its the type of meds that dont mix well, otherwise your doc may be paranoid

I wonder if you asked outright if they would say it’s bunk or that they prefer you take medication with water. I suspect the latter but if I’ve learned anything about the medical community it’s that no-one seems to agree about anything. I have had different pharmacists give me different information about medication and contraindications, as well as what meds are acceptable for certain conditions.
