Teapot with graduated measurement marks inside?

Has anyone ever seen a teapot that had volume measurement marks inside — carved into the clay instead of printed on? Would be nice to have.

I thought of this too and haven’t seen. Probably be more likely of a find in western tea pots. You could probably etch it in on ceramic or glass pots without too much trouble or damage. Clay would be iffy, dont’ wanna break it sanding in a line.

Maybe some of the glass test tube steepers have this but I am unsure.

what would you want that for?

Brian: to measure the amount of water going into the pot as I pour.

What I do is measure and pour water into a teapot or gaiwan and make a mental note of the water line. It’s not always practical though. If brewing a rolled tea gongfu style, the leaves will eventually unfurl, displacing the water level and making it difficult to tell how much you’ve poured.

If you carve into the wet raw clay, you’ll have inaccurate measurements, because clay shrinks as it cures and during firing.

Yep, I thought of that — there’s no way you could standardize it, because each pot would shrink slightly differently….

I have seen glass cha hai with graduated measurement marks. You could always get one of them and use it to see how much tea you are drinking. If that is your reason for wanting that is? I think I have seen one advertised by either Berylleb on EBay or Streetshop88 on EBay not sure which.
