2016: How Much will you spend on tea this year?

I’m a bit late, but I’m hoping to keep my spending under $1,000. I tend to buy most of my tea in the spring/summer because I live for iced tea and fall/winter flavors (warm spices and the like) don’t do much for me.

January – $67.65 (DT FB group and 52Teas)
February – $30.28 (DT FB group and Steepster)
March – $261.97 (DT, 52Teas, Bluebird Tea Co, DT FB group)
April – $129.43 (Bluebird Tea Co, DT FB group, 52Teas, August Uncommon Tea)
May – $27 (52Teas)

Total: $516.33

June – $119.20 (Tealyra, 52Teas, DT FB group)

Total: $635.53

I also placed a large DT order (~$70), but it’s stuck in customs so I believe I’m getting a refund. I might consider placing another order, but the snarky customer service I received is really making me reconsider.

I’m not doing so hot keeping my tea purchases down this year. Is it really only March? Are we sure it’s not…at least July, or something?

Jan spending: $210.49

Feb spending: $72.24

2016 total: $282.73

Nothing so far in March, but I’m not going to lie…I’m eyeing a couple things. It’s only a matter of time. :-\

I dropped that on a Tea Urchin order!

I was hoping for a $500 budget in 2016, and that’s looking much less likely.

I forgot to mention that I got about $110 in tea gifts for my birthday in Feb, which is why Feb purchases are so low.

I have to admit that I feel significantly LESS guilty when I spend time rubbing shoulders with the big spenders on steepster. I’m just a tiny fish in a big tea pond!

This will probably be one of the last ones I get this year.

approx $800? I’ve lost track. Though if you take out teaware, only about $600.
Got to work on drinking teas instead of adding to my cupboard. I’m going to try to keep overall total under $1000.

Pretty sure I’m at about $1000. I’ve resisted buying anything at the Black Friday sales this year.
Pre-black friday:
Whispering Pines $50
Bitterleaf Tea $80 (half tea/half teaware)
White2Tea Club $30 (thinking about it for a while, finally caved)
Little Woods about $50 – Love having this shop close, makes it way to easy to spend when I’m downtown.

I did pretty well in January and February, but March was a big budget buster. The worst damage was $266 in a Tea Urchin group buy, but I’ve had $75 for Liquid Proust group buys, $53 to Wymm tea, and most recently I couldn’t resist the Zen Tea sale to the tune of $40. Toss in a couple of small items and I’ve spent $469 of my $1,000 budget and the year is not quite 25% over. The worst thing is that I’m still planning future orders.

Just calculated it for this year and it’s at $484.48! Higher than I thought lol. $47 at What-Cha, $24 and $143 at Yunnan Sourcing, $20 at The Devotea (Only purchase I’ve regretted out of all of them so far), $10 at IDEStea (Also got a number of free samples here – woot!), $49 at Mountain Tea, $15 and $28 to LiquidProust, $24 at Zen Tea with latest sale, $30 for White 2 Tea Monthly club signup, and $92 at Tea Urchin.

So I have quite a lot of tea, and still five of these orders are on the way/set to arrive in the future :) So I should reign myself in for a few months and just drink what I have. Hopefully I can resist, but I’m sure I’ll make some more (hopefully small) orders here and there. This hobby is great for both my health (have almost completely replaced my soda habit with tea) and is tons of fun, but a bit rough on the wallet!

Edit: Oops, forgot latest YS order of ~$40…so over $500 so far. Yikes lol.

Well I didn’t manage to make it through March without buyinging a few things. The good news is I’ve converted my excel spreadsheet to track consumption vs spending, and make sure I’m drinking more tea than I buy. That helps ease the guilt somewhat.

Jan spending: $210.49
Feb spending: $72.24
Mar spending: $60.50

2016 total: $343.23
