Tea For Relaxing

Happy New Year friends, Does anyone have a favorite tea for relaxing? I find some tea gives me energy, but would like something I can drink during the evening and at night for relaxing.

Chamomile, lemon balm, and rooibos are good. You can find them in bulk on Amazon.

You probably want something herbal, or a decaf tea. Chamomile is supposed to be particularly relaxing, and is relatively easy to find. Peppermint, red rooibos, green rooibos, honeybush, roasted barley, lemongrass, lemon balm, teas from citrus peels or dried fruit, and hibiscus are also popular herbal teas. Most varieties of tea (black, green, white, oolong, puerh), come from the same plant and contain caffeine. Mate, guayusa, coffee beans and cocoa are sometimes found in herbal teas and also contain caffeine, so keep an eye out for those. Once you try a few things and get a better idea of what you like, people will be able to offer you more specific recommendations.

I like Tulsi tea for relaxing but it is an acquired taste for some people.

For me, it’s chamomile, rose, jasmine, and GABA oolong which sometimes feels like a sedative disguised as tea.

Are the rose and jasmine teas you drink herbal? If so, where do you buy them?

I have both herbal and scented versions. You can buy dried jasmine flowers from just about anywhere. There are plenty of vendors on Amazon.

Dried rose bud tea can be had from Teavivre: http://www.teavivre.com/rose-bud-herbal-tea/

Lavender, rooibos/ honeybush, and mint work for me.

Lavender, chrysanthemum, and jasmine – individually – do the trick for me.

Where do you buy your chrysanthemum and jasmine?

I have had chrysanthemum buds from Zen Tea, chyrsanthemum flowers from Tea Drunk and Teavivre, and the jasmine from Teavivre.

Not quite what you’re looking for, i suspect, but the strongest ive had is valerian, and I sometimes take the capsules if insomnia is doing its thing.

But its not a great aroma, really isnt. Its utilitarian not enjoyable – certainly makes you ‘relaxed’ though lol

There is some valerian root in Davids Tea’s Mothers Little Helper. And mint and chamomile, though there may be other things I can’t remember. I don’t like the taste so I never drink it, but hubby enjoys it before bed on occasion.

I use the capsules. the smell! it gets everywhere and i need to wash my hands. Not the nicest, especially for anyone else near me who isnt used to it

I like the Mother’s Little Helper blend too.

Well, going into tea bag territory if you’d like to know, there are Celestial Seasoning’s Sleepytime and Tension Tamer. I occasionally drink them if I’m lazy about loose leaf herbals.

I drink their chamomile, peppermint, bengal spice, mandarin orange spice, jammin lemon ginger, and some of their zinger teas on occasion.

Frontier Coop makes a Relaxation Tea as they call it. If my memory serves it is a mix of peppermint, chamomile, and raspberry leaf. Ordered some from Amazon recently. I have sampled it in a swap. It is pretty good. I guess tea for relaxing has to be caffeine free unless you are one of those with a high tolerance for caffeine.
