How much Tea is to much Tea?

Ive been trying to incorporate tea into my everyday. So far ive found a fondness for Vanilla Chai and Green Teas. I tend to drink Black Tea after Breakfast… which I steep 2 times. Then Green Tea after lunch… depending on brand I can steep up to 3 times. In the evening I like to drink Ginger Tea (decaffeinated) before bed. Am I over doing it

Unless you are so caffeined out you can’t sleep, walk normally or function you are fine.

I likely just drank more tea with my breakfast than you do for your entire day.

The recommendations I’ve seen say to keep your daily intake below 10g. That’s what I aim for as well. It doesn’t sound like you’re over doing it to me.

need a link for that, never heard of it.

That is barely 2 cups of black tea. Typical coffee people caffeine harder than that.

And 10 grams of matcha punches a lot more than 10grams of a white or green.

I drink around six to ten 8ounce cups a day just at work with a 6ounces of matcha before I go in. At home I may drink anywhere between four 12ounce cups, 30 1.5ounce cups, or a random mixture.

I’m not sure if there is a ‘too’ mmuch

I saw some info on other threads about tea blocking iron absorption, and I believe it can also interfere with digestion for some folks. It does with me. The key for me is to not drink a bunch of tea with a meal. Other people can’t drink it on an empty stomach. (shrug) I figure if you feel good and your iron levels are normal, drink as much as you want!

This may not be the best group of people to ask that question of. Many of us probably surpassed the too much tea limit a while ago…

I second that!

I subscribe to the ancient Chinese proverb that it’s “better to go 3 days without food than 1 day without tea.” So yeah, I take a loose definition of what’s considered too much tea.

Looking around online, it seems like the general guidelines are no more than five or six strong cups of tea/day to stay under the recommended caffeine intake guidelines. If you are resteeping leaves, or doing short or low temperature infusions, you’re probably not making strong cups so that would make a difference. Herbal or decaf teas have little to no caffeine, so they wouldn’t be included in your count. Caffeinated drinks are less hydrating than water, so make sure you are staying hydrated. Some types of herbs can have a significant impact on your health as well, so variety and moderation is good there, too. If you don’t have any major health conditions, and you feel okay then you’re probably fine.

Everyone is different. I know if I go up to 4 teas or more for the day, I feel jittery. Base it on how your body feels. If you start breathing too shallow or feel on edge, you’ve probably had too much.

Some teas have more caffeine than others. I can’t even drink matcha. One cup and I’m finished for the day. I try to incorporate black teas occasionally but they have more kick than my usual greens.

Yeah, I’m pretty sensitive to caffeine, so I never have more than two cups of tea/day. Even decaf is often enough to noticeably effect my energy levels. But part of the reason for that is I don’t drink caffeine every day. It takes only 17 days for your body to acclimatize to a particular level of caffeine intake – it no longer gives you extra energy, you have to drink that amount to have your normal amount of energy. Caffeine withdrawal takes 10 days to reset your levels back to normal. I don’t like being dependent on caffeine, so I only drink it occasionally. I usually drink herbal tea.
