usps.com has gone all wacky

Does anyone else track their tea shipments from China. If so you may have noticed that all of a sudden it is impossible to track international shipments on usps.com. Now you can track numbers only and all shipments from China start and end with two letters. Luckily I signed up for email alerts on some packages before usps.com went all wacky. Has anyone else noticed this?

I know nothing about USPS – but I do know that since November last year I can not longer track China tracking numbers on Canada Post.
Something changed in the system and the numbers no longer work – they just come up as invalid.

The same problem is all of a sudden with usps.com. I have sent an email. I will see if they reply. It’s just like a government agency to downgrade its services.

In the meantime this site still is able to track codes containing letters sand numbers. It often gives more detailed info than the postal service and can be used for domestic and international tracking codes.

I’ve noticed that occasionally, I’m able to track my international shipments and other times, it’s like USPS just stops tracking the package once it leaves the US. It’s not always consistent for me.

The one time I sent an international package I was told that if I wanted a tracking number shipping would cost $50. It was a swap so I shipped without tracking. For someone actually selling tea I would see that a tracking number is a must though. I have heard that the USPS has more recently started offering tracking though.

Yeah, they’ve never charged me additional for a tracking number, but as I said, the tracking has never been consistent. It would show me the package going to the main branch where it leaves the US and then all tracking stops at that point. Lately, I’ve found that with some of the packages, they’re tracked beyond the US borders but it isn’t a consistent thing. I still sometimes come across an order that has it’s tracking stopped once it leaves the US.

It’s almost funny that the Chinese do postal tracking so much better than a more “advanced” country like the USA.

I had trouble with tracking on the usps site earlier today as well. I tried entering the same tracking number at Stamps.com and was able to bring up the information no problem. I did get a message from usps saying they were having temporary network problems, though, so maybe it is as simple as that.

I just thought to try the site in a different browser. I normally use Firefox. But I keep Chrome installed for it’s translation features. When I tried USPS on Chrome it worked.

My experience is that I get detailed tracking information from China for a few days, then the package just drops into a black hole for anything from a few days to a few weeks, then suddenly appears in New Jersey and gets tracked from there to my door.
