Creamy shengs?

I love creamy sheng. After trying the TU yiwu snake blend and the rui gong from chadao its my new favourite puerh to drink. I like the slightly muted oolong-y-ness from the creamy oil

What other super-creamy sheng is there for me to try? extra bonus points if its really cheap ;)

I have never thought of sheng as creamy. That being said one of my favorite shengs is Misty Peaks. Despite the controversy it is excellent tea.

i have the controversial MP one, i dont get creamy either. I like it as well.

Those two I listed are definitely creamy. The rui gong so much so, I love it and I am paying for one in installments as its an expensive cake. Stewed apricots and cream it tasted like to me. Lovely stuff

I simply don’t get creamy from sheng at all. I’ve had some good ones but I have never had one I can actually call creamy. Tea in general I don’t often find creamy. Have you tried Yunnan Sourcing’s Impressions cakes? Those are good from the ones I’ve had.

This was one I really liked. I did review it on Steepster. Can’t say for sure if it would qualify as creamy because sheng just doesn’t taste like that to me.

What was the controversy about Misty Peaks?

That their sheng for spring 2015 and 2016 were both produced very, very early.

I see what you mean you mention a sheng being ‘creamy’ since I did send a couple of the samples you mentioned here. In my private diary I call that mouth feel ‘well rounded’ taste. I guess it is just a question of different words to express the same feeling. In statistics that mouth feel could look like the bell curve of a normal distribuion, rising to the peak and falling off slowly just like one gets with a liqueur.

Yeah, that could be it, im not very good at descriptions at the best of times, but I got an oily mouth that I liken to cream, and the way it muted the taste of the fruit/or had muted fruitiness is what cream does in cooking, like when you add it to a hot fruity curry, for example

I think you have to look at sheng with 20 years of age before it gets something like more creamy.

luckily RuiA sent me two which one is recent and another blends but no more than 5 years on it. And both were creamy like you can get in an oolong.

Maybe not as creamy as oolong, but there was a milkiness and cream that muted the sharpness of the stonefruit. I was so impressed im buying a cake even though its expensive – 2014 rui gong tian chao

I spoke to Glenn from CLT and he mentioned that Yiwu shengs can have this characteristic

I would recommend White2Tea’s Poundcake.

It honestly tastes like a good Milk Oolong. It was very buttery/milky with an aftertaste of green. It’s only $50.00 for a cake.

I did a review of it on my blog if you’re interested…

The Poundcake is very good.

I love it. I’ve had more sessions with Poundcake more than any other sheng.

+1 Poundcake from me as well. Someone described this as a ‘desert sheng’ in their review, and I’d have to say this is a perfect description.

OolongDrunk, your review of Poundcake had me drooling and the Drake references were funny.

@Whiteantlers Well thank you :))

The 2005 Dayi Mengsong Peacock has an almost milky like taste to it

Rasseru said

I’m guessing this might be hard to find? Im googling it and can only come up with you giving some to TeaDB and it being ‘expensive’

Grill said

It’s pretty expensive, about 250 on taobao before fees. It was just the first tea I thought about when it came to creamy Sheng. 5 years ago it was 35 dollars…….SIGH

wow thats some inflation

Creamy sheng would be hard to find… Oolong, especially gao shan, and some ripe are often creamy, though.

I got some nice background creaminess from Mandala Tea’s Autumn Song. You can see my review of it here:

I worked out last night that it is a few characteristics that milk has that some teas have that is enough for my brain to think milk, muted flavour and certain aroma, thick & round, slightly oily, but its definitely there.

The peacock blend has it as well.
