Book Club

I think it would work best if each book had a separate topic. Just to keep track of the discussion each month.

If anyone wants to see how AmazonV set up one of the book discussions for the previous book club, here is a link: http://steepster.com/discuss/676-steepster-book-club-reading-schedule-h2g2

Definitely interested to see how this pans out – I haven’t been involved in a book club in quite some time, but think this could be lots of fun and very interesting.

Took the survey! I’ve got the Three cups of tea book around for a while and need a push to start reading it :D

A lot of the setup of the book club will depend on the book that is selected. Of the top three books, which are currently: Three Cups of Tea, Death by Darjeeling and Story of Tea (in current order by votes, 5, 4 and 3), the first two are shorter and more can be read because they’re both in narrative format. The Story of Tea is much longer, but is more informational and less narrative, so that would probably be a chapter by chapter format, simply because of the length. It’ll be interesting to see which one we read! :)

AmazonV did an amazing job with the last book! (I love that book, too!) I hope we do half as well…

Okay… here are the results of our survey… (drumroll, please…) :)

Three Cups of Tea is our first book! It won with 6 votes, followed by Death by Darjeeling (4), Story of Tea (3), Tea With Jane Austen (2) and poor Book of Tea didn’t receive any votes as our first book to read.

So, go ahead and purchase your book, Three Cups of Tea. (Make sure to get the adult version as there is a Young Adult version… not the same thing.) Twing and I need to work on a reading/discussion schedule and we’ll post it on a new thread (the link to which we’ll post here as Book Club: 2nd Steep.)

I actually JUST picked this up from the library yesterday, inspired by the poll you set up…Maybe I’ll be able to follow along : )

Please do!

I picked it up at the library on Tuesday, hopeful thinking as well!
We want it to be flexible, so everyone can participate as much or as little as they desire. Jump in when you can!

What! I voted for The Book of Tea. It’s an incredibly famous classic. I didn’t encounter any voting problems. I wonder why it didn’t go through.

Did you vote for it as a first choice? It did receive votes, but none registered as a first choice pick. It doesn’t give me a record of who voted for which books.

I did.

AJ – I’m not sure why it didn’t go through. I had heard it was really good, too. Poetic. I’m sorry about that.

Ahwell. Maybe next time.

Downloaded the book on my kindle this morning!
Can’t wait to get started!

I’ve actually had this book for a while, but have never been able to focus on getting down to reading it. I’m excited about it, too.

Ordered this book used. I hope it gets here speedily!

You could always (theoretically) get a library copy to tide you over until its arrival if you’re of the library going persuasion.

I’ll order from Amazon and get crackin’. :)

I haven’t ordered the book yet – mega fail, I know. But with my anniversary and V-day I’ve been swamped. How long do we have to read the book? :)
