I think it’s important for us to take a stand when it comes to vendors like this. People are trying to be polite, but let’s be honest here. We know this vendor is basically lying and trying to manipulate us into buying his teas. Would you expect a college educated vendor to either not understand the claim he is making, or take a supplier’s word for such a grandiose claim? I do not think we should be offering help or advice to someone being dishonest. We’ve been through this with Misty Peaks, who never explained why their relative was lying and badgering people, and Verdant, who made similarly ridiculous claims about the age of their teas and defended it tooth and nail.

The solution is not for the seller to simply remove claims that he can’t back up. He never admitted to wrong doing, or mistakes. When sellers behave in this way, they should be shunned, not appeased and helped (though don’t get me wrong, I admire those who are trying to be helpful). We need more honesty in this world, and if anything, engaging with sellers like this does a disservice to the seller himself, and all of us at large.

I don’t think this vendor has any plans of responding to you Rich.

I think the vendor didn’t really understand Steepster, that people here are very often well educated about tea. I think he figured no one would know that 1500 year old tree tea was at heart a bogus claim. Face it, a lot of people elsewhere would simply have believed him. Here we have people well educated in tea. They should have understood that. We also have honest vendors like Yunnan Sourcing willing to call out other vendors bogus claims.

Yeah, you’re probably right. He was clearly trying to play us. Both with the age and USDA organic claim. I hope all buyers will beware, though he might just try again using a different company name.

In all probability he is actually selling plantation tea from young tea trees. If he really has old tree or ancient tree material he ought to be able to come on here and back it up with specific details.
