Tea & Meditation

Curious to see what teas people like to sit and meditate or contemplate with. I like drinking a White Peony mixed with some Silver Needle in the morning. It provides a gentle lift, and supposedly stimulates alpha brainwaves. It’s a good one for some quiet contemplation…

My personal favourite is now extinct, unfortunately: 45 y/o Tie Guan Yin (Old Iron Buddha), from Cloudwalker Teas (our store). It’s aroma is sublime, flavour incredible and very potent chi energy. The woes of the world wash away and the mind and spirit are left in a zen calm. There are a lot of fake or “new” Tie Guan Yin out there, but this is the only one I’ve found that has this kind of effect on me. Alternatively, a good aged (over 30 years), sheng pu erh has incredible energy as well. It’s the tea energy I find that really contributes to meditation/contemplation.

Well dont know whether a particular type of tea helps in meditation or not but drinking tea itself can make us meditative if we come to the present. If we just relax and come from thinking to sensing mode and bring our attention to the taste, smell, look and touch of the tea drinking it sip by sip it becomes a zen tea practice!!
Well if above experiments seems difficult one can contemplate on topics like below too while drinking tea!!

Any good tea can help one meditate. You just need the right mindset for it. I’m not so sure if it’s so scientific or whether it’s this pure pleasure and enjoyment of tea that makes one calm down and reflex.

In the field of Japanese green tea especially gyokuro and matcha are considered to have benefits helping in meditation as these two teas have a high amount of caffeine and the amino-acid theannine. While the caffeine gives you an energy boost the theannine is an amino acid which is proven to have an positive effect against anxiente and stress relieving. I recently just read this interesting article about it:

I’m keen on yoga and one of my favorite things to do after meditation is drinking tea, especially a white one, that has a lot of benefits. Here you can read what exactly: https://www.smartpillwiki.com/white-tea-benefits-what-is-it-and-where-to-buy-the-best-weight-loss-organic-brand/. It’s a good stress relieving method. And besides, there are many examples of how tea helps to meditate in Chinese and other Easters traditions.

A tea after meditation has got to be my favorite routine of the day! I love my Chamomile tea which I once had bought from Sri Lanka. It is the perfect beverage to help your relax and calm your mind. The tea is light yellow in colour and carries a garden-esque fragrance. I get my Chamomile tea through Zesta Ceylon tea website as it has free worldwide shipping. You could check them out on: https://www.zestaceylontea.com/
