This assertion happens to be false. Much of the puerh market is honest and truthful. I can name a number of companies selling puerh that are on the up and up, Yunnan Sourcing, White2Tea, Crimson Lotus Tea, Berylleb King Tea on EBay, Chawangshop,Purepuer, Puerhshop, and King Tea on Aliexpress just off the top of my head. There are a few sellers on EBay and Aliexpress selling fakes but there are many sellers in China giving you what you paid for too. And MrQuackers, how much puerh have you bought from China that you assume they are all selling fakes, I think not as much as me.

These will sometimes have accelerated aging in a very real sense and will brew up a much darker color than a dry stored tea of the same age. However, a young dry stored tea cannot be used to fake an older one no matter how good it is. It will be obviously a young puerh to anyone who drinks it.

The reasons a young dry stored puerh can’t be used to fake an aged tea are simple. Young puerh has a light yellow color to the tea. A tea that is ten to fifteen years old will have developed a dark amber color. There will also be obvious differences in taste. Young puerh is often described as having an apricot like sweetness to it. Older puerh loses this sweet taste and often develops a taste of tobacco or leather. This is not always the case but it does always taste different from a young sheng.
