Curated Puerh Box #002: The Taiwanese Connection (15/09/16)

Some of you have already known about this “box number 2” for weeks

I have got some amazing aged raw puerh (and one from 2010) form a collector friend in Southern Taiwan two months ago and would love to share it with you all.

Emilio from The Jade Leaf will look after the payment and distribution, so I don’t need to get everything send to me and send the boxes out from Australia again

A few things:
1) Sourthern Taiwan storage PLUS good Xiaguan products EQUAL awesomeness
2) The price is pretty much the same as what you would pay in a shop in Hong Kong.
3) Two of the tea are a once off private press of Yiwu Dashu and Gushu material
4) 2003 Xiaguan FT 250g raw brick and light traditional storage 1st batch 03 Brown Changtai is hard to find in open market

The line up:
1) 2000 Yiwu Dashu raw cake (Private Press), Southern Taiwan natural storage

It is commissioned by someone in Taiwan and come with no wrapper, no neifei, no nothing.

The aroma and sweetness is classic Yiwu.
The body is very thick, even at the 10th infusions.
My body/mood/energy react to it quite well. Not a “stoner Pu” but very relaxing.

2) 2003 Brown Changtai raw cake (1st batch barcode-less wrapper), light traditional storage

Best batch of the famous/infamous Changtai product, traditionally stored (wet) for a few year and stored naturally in Southern Taiwan since then.

And It was called the “Poorman’s (old!) 8582” and I totally agree after I tried it.

3) 2003 Xiaguan FT 250g raw brick, Southern Taiwan natural/dry storage

Commissioned by FT and “It is an affordable introduction to classic old Xiaguan taste of the factory’s golden age”
Storage could be defined as dry or natural.

4) 2004 Xiaguan FT8653-3+1 raw cake, Southern Taiwan natural storage

Directly out of FT’s warehouse in Ping Tung, Southern Taiwan. The warehouse is quite humid and hot (but not like traditional storage) and does wonder to it!

It is not an iron cake but heavily compressed. 8653 recipe with some old material. It has been aged so well that it tasted a bit like old Xiaguan iron cake.

5) (optional) 2010 Yiwu Gushu raw cake (Private Press), Southern Taiwan natural/dry storage

I don’t know much about gushu, all I can say is, it is not ‘soft’ like the Yiwu I had, the huigan is nice, the taste stays in the palate for a long time, the bitterness is pleasant, a bit green. Body is not super thick but the throat feel is like whisky

The box will be sent directly from Taiwan to your doorstep 1st, by trackable airmail.
