Is it ok to post vendor sales and promotions as Topics?

Just wondering what the etiquette is here? I saw there is a sales discussion topic where people post sale announcements as a reply, but have also seen topics where each is a sales announcement from a specific vendor.

I have no authority here at all – but when you start a new topic you can choose to put it in “tea companies and promotions” rather than general discussion. I would think that’s what that option is for.
I also feel that most of us follow “all topics” so everything shows for us unless we specifically set it to not show.
Personally I don’t care – I like seeing sales from tea companies.

@Dexter – Ah ok that makes sense. This is the first topic I have ever started and I actually didn’t notice that you could group them differently. OK good to know and thank you!

Tea companies post sales here all the time, I see no reason for you not too except that I will spend more money if you post sales here.

Haha… you get me newsletter right? ;-)

I remember there was discussion on this a while back, but I don’t believe there’s anything that covers it in the rules. People were a little irked when vendors started a new topic for every update, which resulted in (I think) Jason suggesting that vendors instead make a “home topic” in the Tea Co. and Promos section, and just to update the OP and bump it every time they have a “sale” update. The only examples I can think of now are 52Teas (Frank used to keep a “main” topic for updates way back), and Liquid Proust.

I know Steepster’s not the fastest moving forum, and we tend to get bogged down with spam attacks (and occasionally one-dude-posting-twenty-blog-updates); there also hasn’t been a lot of ‘Word from God’ activity lately. But I’d say sales posts are always encouraged because people want to save money.

The main ‘sales discussion topic’ mostly covers sales from vendors who aren’t exactly active or present on Steepster, so can’t post the sales updates themselves.

Hi AJ! Thanks for a brief history of Steepster and sale postings. Seems like I should create a YS Sales and Promotions Topic that people can subscribe to if they want to get the latest announcements!

Good to know and we have a similar rule on TeaChat—one thread per merchant :)
