Thanks for your sharing, which is enable us to see lots of funny, warm and romantic tea related stories.

Congratulations to Aleksandar from Facebook, and I think one of the greatest lucky thing in life is to meet a like-minded mate, like your wife.

3rd question: If you plan to host a tea party, which tea set will you choose to brew teas?

t-ching said

I would use a larger (maybe around 150ml gaiwan). I would choose a gaiwan that is glazed so that I could drink many different teas with the group. Depending on how many people, I would choose cups that would allow everyone to get an even amount of tea.

If I were to host a tea party it would be for non tea drinkers who wouldn’t understand the nuances of gongfu brewing and wouldn’t be interested in a 30ml cup of tea. So I would probably go with my largest cast iron pot which is I believe 1.2 liters and pick a good black tea to go with it. I unfortunately don’t know any tea drinkers local enough to throw a tea party for gongfu brewing so western it would have to be.

I don’t actually have a set and never hosted a tea party before. If I were to host a party without a tea set, I would use the largest gongfu brewing vessel I own – a 6 ounce glass pot – so that my invitees could clearly see the leaf brewing and the color of the liquor. I have a few eggshell porcelain cups that are of varying styles but around the same size.

It depends on what kind of party it is. If I want to seriously invest people in tea culture I would get a gaiwan and a tea tray. If it was just a “fun hang out” type of gathering, especially for new people, I would use a cast iron or a standard tea pot.

Here Grantulations to Allen from Facebook. If you plan to brew some high fragrance Oolong teas next time, you may consider using Zisha teapot, which has excellent porosity and heat handling properties that significantly preserves the aroma of Oolong teas.

4th Question: Have you ever met any new friends because of tea? Please @her/him name.

t-ching said

Yes! I have met @teaformeplease @boychik @liquidproust @miss_phi @twinofmunin @hoalatha @bezoomnychaiveck all via a mutual love for tea. Tea is truly beyond a beverage, it is something that brings people together!

I met @miss_phi through Steepster! We actually went to the Philadelphia Coffee & Tea Festival together the weekend before last, and we’ve visited several tea shops in the past. Although since she shows up in my answer and t-ching’s, maybe @miss_phi should get the prize!

I am friends with several people still (though we don’t see each other much anymore) because my husband used to work at a tea shop in our previous hometown. I keep in touch with them via social media, and we post things about tea all the time with each other! It’s been a great way to keep in touch with them across the miles, despite us being very different people.

Ooh yes. I love tea community because of that you can get new friends who share the love of tea. I’ve had a lot new friends irl, but from internet I want to name @taikakurki. We have had great a teatime together.

@kittenna, @indigobloom, and @raritea and i all met because of tea. We had our first steepster meetup 5? years ago and still get together at least once a year to catch up on things and have some tea. We’ve since expanded to include other toronto area folks that none of us knew except through tea like @variatea; @christina tea and books, @keychange and others..

we have a facebook group to keep in touch with those of us we’ve met through tea (though many of us not yet in reality) as well – folks like @dexter3657 who better come to toronto eventually!

Additionally, i met @cavocorax (who later moved to toronto yay!) and @omgsrsly while out visiting in vancouver…along with @missB.

@terriharplady and i met through tea as well – she’s my teasister and i was able to meet up with her in st louis as well!

Toronto tea festival is one thing a number of us try to do each year as well, to meet up with new and old friends that we’ve met through tea. just last year i met @evolvingness for the first time too.

Honestly, there are too many to name. tea has brought a number of friends in to my life, and it’s been great to see what that initial love of tea can do in connecting people and allowing great friendships to develop and last across cities, provinces and countries!

Aww I’m jelly of all the tea friends. I did go to a steepster meetup a few years ago, but I haven’t met nearly as many people as it sounds like you all have. Probably part of the problem is that I’m in Florida where we don’t have much tea culture :(

Congratulations to @Sil, who wins the $20 Gift Card.

We felt quite touched for the last sentence from Sil and these are also the words that we want to express to all the tea friends. May our friendship last forever!!

Remembering this story makes me happy and sad at the same time :) A few years ago, my niece was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I was absolutely devastated as we are very close and have a lot in common, including a love of British culture. Before our next meeting, I prepared a care package with some English candies, feel-good movies like Love Actually, and some homemade scones and some of your Keemun black tea. I chose the Keemun since it is meant to be the Queen of England’s favorite kind of tea! Thankfully my niece recovered beautifully and is doing very well now, but she let me know how much the care package (and the tea) lifted her spirits while she was undergoing treatment.
