Adagio's Varietea kettle

Does anyone have it? Thoughts? Should I drop $100 bucks on it or no? I love the keep warm feature. I like that it is a simple touch temperature feature. Are there better cheaper ones out there? I really like adagio and try and support them, but is $100 worth it. Interested in hearing your thought.

Well it has some pretty bad reviews on amazon.

The Cuisinart CPK17 is cheaper, more temperatures, and similar functionality with the temperature selection. There is a keep warm and boil dry auto shut off. I own that one and the Bonavita – that one is a lot of button pressing. I reviewed them both in detail http://oolongowl.com/tag/tea-kettle/

TBH, the Adagio kettle has some weird temperatures. 150 is really low to be useful for anything (and too high for like gyokuro). I rarely even use 165 myself, preferring 175F.

I really like the 1 degree increments on my Bonavita

I prefer the glass Cuisinart. I don’t brew tea in mine, just heat water with it. I went to glass kettles after my nice metal one started to show rust.

Wow, guys I really appreciate the feedback. After some more research, I have decided to take the Varietea kettle off of my list. I like the Cuisinart CPK17 option (except people have had issues with rust? :( ) I also went to my local tea shop Cha Teas and they have 2 brewista options (the one with the variable temps is over $100).
I am now also considering Utilitea kettle after speaking to the shop owners, they really like their Utilitea kettle.
Anyways, further feedback is always appreciated!

To be fair, regarding the rust, my kettles get a lot of use. We also have really hard water here, though I am not sure if that makes a difference.

One thing I suggest with any kettle is to use filtered water if you have hard water where you live, to prevent mineral deposits from building up. So worth it to not have to descale later!

I was one of the people who complained about rust. Within a month of receipt as a gift one of the welds in the spout had some corrosion and the pin on the top hinge was badly rusted. That was 3 years ago, and neither has gotten significantly worse.

I am very pleased with the Cuisinart. I am going to need to replace it soon as the on/off switch is starting to fail (after something over 10,000 operations – yes I drink a lot of tea gong-fu style). When it goes I intend to buy another. BTW: I have really good water in the Boston area: rain to reservoir.

i like my cuisinart (only got the 85 button one), but would buy that nicer one for sure.

70/80/90/100 temp buttons does me fine! – since decanting into a thermos ive learnt how to adjust naturally with that

I own two Adagio Utilitea variable kettles. One I have had for a number of years. Great kettles, very reliable, and $60 on Amazon

I have a utilitiea too. Going on almost 10 years! Works great and boils quickly. It does not have exact degree measurements but you can estimate based on the zone. My only gripe is I do wish it had a keep warm feature, but honestly it’s not a huge deal to just turn the kettle back on.

I was fortunate enough to be gifted a Breville 1 touch tea maker. Not only does it heat the water, but it has a magnetically operated tea basket that lowers in to steep and then comes back up after steeping. It also has a keep warm function to keep it hot all day. I cannot recommend it high enough, but there are two things worth mentioning. The first is that it is very expensive, $238 USD on Amazon, and the second is that steeping time is only available in increments of 30 seconds. I have had this teamaker for many years, and it is still going strong, even with almost daily use(often multiple brews per day)
