Where do you buy aged white tea?
Aged white tea is very easy to find here in China, but which Western-facing vendors sell it? Is it exorbitantly expensive?
White2tea has some good aged whites. None of them are terribly old though. The 2011 cake is easy to recommend, and I think it is a good value. If you get some, make sure you try boiling it on the stove.
You can probably find something cheaper on EBay, or maybe King Tea on Aliexpress might have some but I am not sure. Seems to me I have seen it on the EBay seller Streetshop88 who now goes by Goartea I think.
Streetshop88 has a few but I can’t attest to their quality. Some are quite reasonably priced like this one.

While I have not bought any white tea froom this seller I have bought an awful lot of puerh from him, mostly ripe, and it has been generally good tea. Not name brands but good quality as far as taste goes.
I’m not terribly experienced in aged whites, but comparing it to the quality of similarly priced puer, it seemed like a good value to me (a big value point being while this is fully ready to drink, most 2011 raw puer would like more aging). If you can get similar quality for less, then I’m a bit envious :)
I’m drinking a 2008 gongmei right now that was just a few bucks for 100 grams (it came in a pack of aged whites of various ages that was $15 for 4 100g cakes). It’s quite nice and is surprisingly higher grade than I was expecting.
Man that’s cheap. I think my only chance of getting something at that price would be hitting up taobao, but even then it wouldn’t be so cheap after shipping/fees are added in, not to mention the risks involved.

I like it, and I brewed it up strong, and I’m already getting some of that black-tea-like flavor you’d get from an aged white. Maybe I’ll whip out Old Whitey from W2T tomorrow and compare; my memory is that it as a bit “younger” in flavor and a lot more energizing.
Verdent’s aged shou mei is fantastic.
I just ordered from Streetshop88, they are a respectable vendor. Ill put a full review up when I get it.

I ordered some aged whites from Wuyi Origin, and tried the loose 2009 Baimudan Today: https://www.wuyiorigin.com/store/p44/2009_aged__Baimudan__白牡丹.html. I brewed in a teapot (iso boiling). and thought it was good, roughly on par with W2T’s aged cake. More on the fruity side than on the “barky” side, if you know what I mean.
I got a decent quantity of the 2009s/2011s from Wuyi Origin, if anyone is interested in sampling feel free to shoot me a pm, maybe we can set up a swap or something.
I got an order of 2008 fuding shou mei white tea from Gortea (streetshop88) coming in next week. Id love to arrange a trade of 25 grams or so. Send me a pm, I also have a few ripe pu’erh from YS as well as some greens from Teavana and Teavivre, if those arent to your taste.
Drinking the 2009 Aged Baimudan cake from Wuyi Origin today. The first time I tried this I brewed it a bit lighter, and today I’m really pushing it. Getting a nice “baked goods” type taste as a result; high on the tasty-o-meter.
The gortea 2008 aged white tea finally got here in the mail today after getting lost by the post office.. twice…

I tried this tea today. My first thought was that the liquor seemed rather light, and I was surprised when I looked it up that it was listed as from 2008. That might not mean much though. While I liked it, it paled in my mind compared to the whites I’ve had from W2T and Wuyi Origin. Not as thick or smooth. Nice flavor and aroma though.
Yeah it had a strong flavor of honey. Yeah the flavor and aroma were really nice. No not as thick as the ones I got from you. But then again, we dont know how it was stored or aged.
Did you get around to tasting green mark?
I haven’t gotten to the green mark yet – too many other samples. I’ll be sure to let you know when I do.
I might be looking at getting their moonlight white cake as well.
yeah I was so impressed by the shou mei cake, I might get their moonlight white as well, it looks really good. And other people have given this store props.
Goartea is otherwise known as Streetshop88 on EBay. I think that is the shop he is referring to.
I’ve been looking at that Ebay shop, and I gotta say I’m a bit skeptical about at least a few of the teas on there (and most of the tea on Ebay, of course). I have a hard time believing the prices of puerhs from the 90’s and early 2000’s, especially when attached to “ancient”, “wild arbor”, “gu shu”, or “CNNP”. I don’t doubt that there’s good stuff on there, but is there any way to verify the claims they make?
Most of those are ripe puerh, and it seems attaching ancient to anything that resembles a tree more than a bush is the “in” thing to do for tea sellers now.
What I can say, is the tea I got from them is definatley completely worth the price, its really good aged white tea.

Heck we cant aggree if Verdant Tea and Mei leaf are selling real gushu tea.
