Having an idea for a store

I have been giving a thought to my idea for a while but am not an expert on tea.
I have an plan to start a tea shop that serves tea from all over the world, mainly chinese tea, turkish tea/coffee, chai, english tea varieties and any kind of tea that reminds people of their own country.

My idea of such a place is different from regular restaurant-style places. I am thinking more of a low seating environment with minimal space and cashing in on parking lot spaces where people can sit in their car and sip their tea.

I don’t know if there are such small places available to set up shop. so that is one question.

Secondly, and most importantly, who should I get in touch with to get bulk tea at wholesale rates? I know importing them will cost me a lot and I can’t find a single wholesaler who sells all (or at least, most of) the international varieties. My idea is to justify the flavor of tea that I serve. Any suggestions on these steps and on the idea?

Selling tea to go is not a new idea. Every tea shop I know does it. You haven’t got anything original there. As far as contacts with wholesalers I wish you luck getting that information. Most tea shop owners guard their sources and don’t just give them out.

thanks AllanK. That is what I am experiencing. My idea is not to give them to-go tea, although it does serve that purpose. The way I am thinking to pull this off is different and I am mostly concerned with getting the kind of space area (small, really small) to do this. I will continue to search for these secret wholesalers and will post them here to help other steepsters out. Thanks for your response :)

A cup of hot tea with cold air makes us feel differently. But before you sell tea, but you should learn the basics in making good tea, so that flavor is made feels good and steady.

Enjoy a cup of hot tea in the air that is cool with a wonderful spectator

Well said, Kouncit. I did think of the experience and also because i want to keep the prices low, I am thinking of where I could save. One idea is to keep my area space low to save on rent and thus take up space where there is plenty of parking spaces available. Thanks!

Metropolitan teas is the biggest supplier around North America. They have hundreds of options, and at one point served up to 80% of the looseleaf market. That statistic is from awhile ago, and I think they have more competitors now that tea is so popular.
What country do you live in?

Thanks for the info! I will surely look up Metropolitan. I am in the US and residing west of Chicago.

NP! I’ve heard they can be a bit difficult to get in touch with, until they know you’re a serious buyer. Good luck :)
