My first loose tea cup, one major problem!

Made my first loose leaf tea cup today! I loved measuring out the tea and being able to adjust the amount according to my preference. Better than tea bags for sure! I did have one problem…. my variable kettle. I bought this one https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-CPK-17-PerfecTemp-1-7-Liter-Stainless/dp/B003KYSLNQ/ The ease of use and the accuracy of the temp was spot on. I could make tea all day long with this thing. One MAJOR problem though, my water tastes like plastic. What should I do? I’m trying to air it out in hopes that this will resolve. I’ve boiled several full liters of water in hopes of washing it out as well. I’ll try again tomorrow and if it’s not resolved I’m considering sending it back. Also, there is condensation trapped in the plastic side window, is this normal? Would this have been a better option? https://www.amazon.com/POUR-OVER-Coffee-Kettle-Built/dp/B018WDAQBE no plastic whatsoever inside.

The Cuisinart kettle has a removable plastic water filter. Try taking it out and see if it helps with the plastic taste in the water.

I have a very similar gooseneck kettle with thermometer that I use in conjunction with an induction burner. Downside is it requires you to pay more attention to the water temperature than a variable temperature kettle, but pours beautifully and has absolutely no plastic taste.

I have that kettle and never had that problem. Where did you buy it? You should be able to get a free replacement.

I got this one and it works Awesomely. Heats quickly with little noise, keeps the water warm for quite a while even without the keep warm feature. it’s basically a no name knock off of what you have.

Now my ability to steep the tea into something good, is still in question though, but that’s not the kettle’s fault… lol

Condensation is normal for that type of kettle. Have you tried different teas and cups to make sure it is not just the tea that is off?

Good news everyone, I don’t know if this was the problem but I took out the plastic filter that was on the spout. Water ran through that when you poured it out. Since I took it out I made a cup and there was no plastic taste! Just a really good cuppa tea! Now I need some suggestions for some great loose leaf to try!
