Official Steepster Tea of the Month Club - Would you be interested?
I also know some tea of the “month” clubs ship in batches (for example 2 at a time)… if it is done this way, I think it needs to be renamed.
I’d be interested, especially if I could sign up for say 3 months at a time. That way I could try it and then decide whether I liked it or not and whether I’d want to renew.
PS – this might be asking too much, but I’d love it if they were non-dairy for us vegans, or for people with allergies. Like I said, I’m probably asking too much.
I guess I was under the assumption that prepaying a subscription for a given period is just how it would automatically work. That’s what makes it different than just buying a tea and waiting for it to be delivered. (and the surprise of course of most subscriptions).
As opposed to (a) paying for 12 mos or (b) signing up for a subscription and canceling when you no longer want it.
Honestly? I probably wouldn’t subscribe. I base that on my personal experience, and not in trying to rain on your tea parade. I bought the “Little Black Box” of etailers products a couple of times and stopped when I realized that the scents most people LOVED, were just not for me. Fake scented Cupcake soap held no more charm for me than fake flavored Cupcake tea would. But maybe that means you SHOULD do it, as I may well be in the minority.
I would and do enjoy getting samples, surely. But, when you factor the costs of shipping that you have to incur and charge, I’m afraid that I would not consider it worthwhile, as I try for the best price and I prefer to choose how I spend my money. I did purchase the Golden Moon tea of the month, when it got deep discounted in December and I do appreciate getting select teas from an excellent source. But, even so, I haven’t used a lot of those selections past the first trials. They are interesting, but it isn’t what I would have chosen and I have more than I am interested in finishing. The best part of your idea is that it would be a more sample size also, and I agree that 12 gr would be PERFECT. I also like the idea of announcing the choice ahead of time and having an opt out.
For all that, I would still say MAYBE, if the selection of sample was intriguing and the price was right.
I probably would not be interested. I know my preferred range of tea varieties is not that wide, and my tea budget is limited. I like to choose my own. I have not found a tea of the month type plan that has interested me, because I do have a few allergies, specific preferences that seem to be narrowing, and hate throwing tea out. (Yes, I know I can give it away or swap for it, and have done so many times, but I hate the idea of planning to be wasteful.)
EDIT TO ADD: One way I might be interested is if it were month by month or a few months concentrating on just black teas (one month Darjeelings, one month China black, one month other blacks). Then you could do another few months concentrating on oolongs (and I might even go for this one), and another few months on green. That way, I would participate during the black tea months, but not the others. I usually have to decline most herbal blends unless they are free of chamomile. I do have a friend that will gladly take the chamomile blends off my hands, though.
I don’t think an “opt out” option is practical or a good idea. Yes I know allergies are an issue, but aside from that I think that’s just being way too picky. I wouldn’t, for example, subscribe to Readers Digest then ask for an “opt out” option if none of the articles in a given month didn’t interest me. This is not like getting a ticket package to your local performing arts center… this is a tea of the month club.
I would LOVE this! I love trying new things and this sounds like a great idea. I like keeping the cost low but also balancing that with allowing for more then one cup per type of tea so we can really get a feel for the product.
I’m so in – if the price is right! :)
Is shipping to other countries really that expensive? I’ve shipped small packages (bubble wrap envelopes) to Canada, Europe, Japan, Asia, and the cost is never much more than, say, $1 above what it would be to ship in the U.S. Heck, the shipping to Canada is even cheaper than shipping within the U.S. (without delivery confirmation)!
A small packet of tea samples isn’t heavy; it should be reasonable to ship. I would hate to see international tea lovers having to sit this out.
It would be nice if we get promotional discounts from the suppliers of the teas, so we can then buy the one we liked directly from them
That’s the way Steepster Select used to work, although the featured item didn’t always have a discount. This is, or at least should be, something different rather than a “opt-in/opt-out” on a daily (or even monthly) basis. While I LOVED a different item every single day, the idea they’re proposing, if they chose to do it that way, would allow people in all countries to participate.
Jason, didn’t see your reply when I posted mine. If you like that idea, just bring back the Steepster Select since dariver74’s idea, while good, is very different from a TOTM subscription. If daily is too much, start with bringing it back once a week or once a month. I’d rather see it less often and get a discount than more often w/ no discount.
We’re doing this as a test for another product that deals with monthly subscriptions, so it really has to be that. But the idea I liked is giving people a good incentive/direction for them to buy more of a tea they liked in the TOTM.
