52teas RE-Secured Checkout

I didn’t realize it until a few weeks ago, but apparently, something was causing our checkout page to display an error that there was some secure and some not-secure items on the page.

This caused me a great deal of consternation, because we paid extra to be able to offer our customers the opportunity to check out securely with their credit card. I hate to think about how much business we might have lost due to this issue.

Well, it took me a couple of weeks, but I finally tracked down the culprit: our “Sexy Bookmarks” plugin that allowed people to easily share our content on Facebook, Twitter, etc. was causing the error. Reluctantly, I removed it.

I hope you will all continue to share our posts on your social networking sites even if it takes a little extra effort to copy and past the url.

But I wanted to let everyone know that it is fixed now, and you can checkout with confidence using your credit card. (I sincerely doubt you had anything to fear from checking out while it was still displaying mixed content, but I want to give our customers every assurance that we are taking every precaution.)

Is there anyone here who was spooked by the warning? I’m just curious.

I’m actually pretty excited that I was able to figure it out by myself. I have to borrow from Dr. McCoy and say, “Dammit people, I’m a tea blender, not a web programmer!” =)

I didn’t get the warning, but, if I would have, I would have been spooked, because when I do get those warnings, I’m outta there. (I can only think of a couple of occasions when I actually did get that type of warning, but when I have gotten them, I leave without completing the transaction)

Yeah. That’s exactly what I was afraid of. I hope I didn’t scare off too many people. Stupid website stuff makes me a bit crazy sometimes. And of all things, it was the silly plugin that let people post stuff to their Facebook page. Well, live and learn I guess. I’m just glad I was able to figure it out.

I will say though, that if I would have gotten the message on your website, I would have contacted you. With other companies, I generally wouldn’t bother unless it is something that I really want. If it is something that I’m buying on the whim, though, I don’t bother contacting the company to let them know of the error message. I just chalk it up to it being the universe’s way of telling me I don’t need to order it.

Thanks. I appreciate that. I sure wish someone had contacted me. I had no idea, and still don’t know how long it had been an issue.

I used pay pal, so didn’t ever see it. But if I had, I might have left my order at that point. It’s really unfortunate that those plug ins can do that! Good to know.

I don’t think I saw anything when I ordered a couple weeks back, but it’s hard to recall.

Thank you for being up-front with us about it, Frank. Some sellers might have just quietly fixed the problem and pretended like it didn’t happen, but your honesty is appreciated.
