What do you think of the Steepster Select Tea of the Month Club?

http://member.ly/steepster-select

Did you sign up? If no, why not? Is there anything that would need to change in order to convince you to sign up? (not counting international shipping, we’re already working on that)

Feel free to let us know what you think and we’ll do our best to improve the subscription with each month.

Yes, I signed up… I am excited to see what the first month will bring.

I signed up. I figured this is a pretty easy way to get introduced to new teas and teas I might not get a chance to try otherwise.

And as LiberTEAS said, I’m excited to see what this first month is going to bring.

Awesome! So excited to have you. I checked out your tealog and I think this will be good for you. It’s gonna push you a little, give you some stuff that’s kinda different than what you’re used to, but not so far that everything will seem unusual.

Which is OK with me. Teas like Oolong and what not are not teas I wouldn’t seek out to try on a whim. So I figured as a surprise, getting things shipped to me to try kind of works out better because it’ll open up the realm of tea and give me chances to try something else.

It looks like you guys have set it up really well. It’s so appealing, and I’ll sign up as soon as it’s possible. I think what will be extra-special about this is the community aspect of the subscription. It’ll be cool to see everyone’s thoughts and discussions on the teas.

If you’re not available to signup now, you can shoot an email to [email protected] and I’ll put you on the waitlist to make sure you have a spot asap if it happens to fill up.

Thanks! I’m in Canada, and on the list to be notified when shipping internationally is an option.

The addition of samples would be nice.

Jason select said

What do you mean exactly? Including samples in the box, other than the three teas already in there?

Anatta said

Yes. I liked the original idea of samples because it would 1) Make one a more experienced tea drinker, 2) Allow one to find a few staple vendors or teas without having to pay a lot in shipping fees. 3) Expand one’s tastes and horizons without taking too much of a financial risk (if you don’t like a specific one, there are still a bunch more to try).

I do also like this idea of 2-3 ounces of the “Best Of,” however if you threw in a few samples along with that that would be awesome. Of course that might mess up the economics of the whole things but it would certainly sell me. If that were a problem, an alternative would be perhaps to drop one of the three teas in exchange for a bunch of one-serving sized samples. Just some ideas. Either way I already signed up :)

When putting the box together it’s a balance of what we can support financially while still making it awesome. But we like the sample approach too.

I signed up and love the sound of getting three mystery teas each month. I’ll be able to say more once things start to arrive.

What if I have a food allergy (coconut) any way to opt out of one say get two of the same? it most likely wont come up often but just wondering ??

teaINfuse said

but no matter I will be a member by Sat any ways…

Jason select said

We’ll do our best to accomodate any allergies. We haven’t picked anything with coconut yet, but I could see it being a possibility. If that were the case though, we could easily arrange something special for that month since coconut probably won’t come up that often. Just make sure to email us and tell us of the allergy when you signup.

I signed up, as a college student on a budget trying to save up for grad school this is a good way for me to try new teas without breaking into my savings.

I’m too complicated. :) Green tea gives me migraines so I cannot have that and would probably get that in the tea of the month club. Also, I’m vegan, so I don’t want any dairy and I cannot control that with the tea of the month club.

I love the idea… if only I wasn’t that complicated.

Jason select said

Dairy probably wouldn’t pop up too often, but green tea would be more of an issue…hopefully later on we’ll be able to grow and offer different types of boxes that might be a better fit.

Argh, I had a reply written out and then the page froze for some reason. Anyway, recap: 1. I don’t have a tea budget of $20/month (and if I did buy this it would basically guarantee I couldn’t buy any other teas); 2. I’ve always been iffy about tea of the month clubs because I worry I won’t like the teas and then will have a lot of it; and 3. related to the last point, 2-3oz is a lot of tea for me, and it would pile up quickly before I could drink it. I prefer to buy samples initially, meaning some amount of tea that provides less than 10 cups.

If you pre-announced the theme (but not the particular teas) before signups for a particular month (which I know doesn’t fit your “surprise theme” idea), I would probably be persuaded every once in a while by the theme.

I agree that I’d be on board if there was a pre-announced theme.

However regarding your too much tea comment, they are sending out 2-3 oz of tea total, with 3 different types of tea which means you would receive enough leaves to make 7-10 cups of each tea. So that fits with your 10 cups or less.

Dinosara said

Ah, ok, I see now… for whatever reason I thought it was 2-3oz per tea, not total. That’s more reasonable for samples for me. But then I reach the point that $19 for 2-3oz of tea, even very good tea, for a tea I may not end up liking, it’s a little steep for me.

I am probably going to sign up. The two things that bother me about this:

1. The price. In my mind, $12-15 is the magic number for the price I feel comfortable spending on tea I may not like. I realize there is a cost to all of this, including shipping, etc., and I don’t fault the organizers for charging $19 to incorporate all these costs, but that price isn’t as comfortable as I’d like.

2. The fact that it’s only 2-3 oz. Let’s say I fall in love with one of the featured teas — there will only be enough for a few cups.

I’m being overly picky, I know. I will probably sign up.

Jason select said

The price is tricky, but we’ll always try to make it the best deal possible and certainly worth your money. We want you to keep subscribing and we know you won’t do that if it’s not worth your money.

For your 2nd concern, each tea will indicate where you can buy it online, and we’re even looking into the possibility of offering a discount code in later boxes. Hopefully that can be arranged soon.
