Candied ginger in chai?
Has anyone who blends their own masala chai use candied ginger? I saw some at the grocery store and wondered if it might be good for this.
Dang I bet that’d be really good! Sugar and ginger in one source. :)
I tried this. I made one 8 oz cup by simmering the tea (Decaf Twinings Breakfast) and spices (2 peppercorns, 1/3 cinnamon stick, 1 clove, and 5 clove-sized pieces of candied ginger) in about 3 oz for 3 minutes, then added 1/2 tsp sugar and about 5 oz milk, and cooked until warmed through. I definitely got the heat from the ginger. I don’t think the ginger flavor was as bright as when fresh ginger is used, but it was good.
