How much is your tea?

I regularly buy tea in three different currencies, so that’s a rather complicated question.

It depends on where I’m shopping. TeaSpring, for example, is pricey, but their shipping is really in the bagatelle area of the scale, so that evens out. Other places take less for the tea but charge more for shipping. There is also, in most places, a large difference in price from tea to tea.

I haven’t the foggiest about what the average cost of my collect- sorry, backlog is per 100g. It’s all so differently priced, I can’t even make a guesstimation.

52 teas is another example of a tea that seems pricey, but when you look at free shipping it’s really a good deal!
Your prices sound about average to what I normally pay for a run of the mill, normal tea though. (In store, not always online. Always gotta look at those shipping prices haha)

Edit: I should clarify, “pricey” for me is like.. $7-10 for 50g (2 ounces)

I mostly buy high quality tea, mixed with a few cheaper flavoured teas. So that is anywhere from $5 to $19 CAD for 50g (I don’t buy more than 50g of any one tea unless I love it). The ones between $13 to +$19 I usually steep at least 5 times (yes even black tea!).

It really depends on the tea but in most cases it ranges between $5 and $10 an ounce. Usually blends are a bit less than your typical non-blended tea. Pure teas in my experience seems to cost more for reasons I can understand. I look at it as wine. A California blend wine may cost less because it comes from a variety of places. Now a Merlot from a single Napa Valley vineyard may cost more because it is specifically from one location using a single type of grape and not any other types of grapes or regions. I hope I am making sense.

I’d say the mean of my collection falls in the 10 to 20USD range for 50 grams. But I occasionally splurge on something wonderful, I just spent 30USD for 50 grams of a gorgeous single estate assam. Hopefully I won’t be disappointed.

Generally, I tend to make unblended purchases that are high in quality and that normally costs $20-$50 per 4 oz.

For blended (flavor) teas, I spend around $5-$10 per 1 oz.

It depends really on where and what I buy. Having just returned from Japan, most of my tea collection consists of the more high quality tea I bought there for around $10-$15 per 100g. However, there are certainly times when I spend $60~ per 100g for certain extraordinary teas.

I think it depends on my mood and what I’m looking for. David’s tea and Teaopia are convenient for me, and they charge mostly around $5-7 per 100g. If I’m in the mood for a premium white, it’s more like $18/100g but I only buy 10g at a time if I can manage it. (specifically from Tea Emporium.)
As for online purchases, I’ve only ever done that once and it was a package deal- 30 samples for $45, regularly $85. I haven’t received it in the mail yet so I’ll update here when I do!

I always buy tea that is never a blend. Only Chinese(+Taiwanese) tea till now, but I’m so overwhelmed from their huge variety of taste/aroma/qi depending on the tea!
I get like 10-15gr every time because they are quite expensive and I have a low budget, but if you buy good quality once, you can never go back… :)

I always buy my black teas from Mariage Freres. Mostly Spring Flush Darjeelings. Yes, it’s really expensive, and yes I can find Spring Flush Darjeelings at other online retailers at reasonable prices, yet i’ve tried the others and Mariage still stands head and shoulders above them. Even the ones that directly import from India. With the US dollar falling in price every day, the 30-40 euros is now 40 to 55 dollars per 100 grams. so if I buy 700 grams at a time. . . . .
