Butiki Teas-New Sales (Ends July 6): 1991 Aged Oolong, Caramel Vanilla, Peppermint Patty, Sencha
New Sales!!! http://www.butikiteas.com/On%20Sale.html. Sale ends July 6th!
1991 Da Ye Aged Oolong-21% Off-Our 1991 Da Ye Aged Oolong is a 22 year old spring harvested tea from Nantou, Taiwan. This rare tea is oxidized between 20-30% and charcoal roasted. Da Ye Oolong is uncommon today since this tea has a lower production volume. Our 1991 Da Ye Aged Oolong is sweeter and creamier than our 2003 Reserve Four Season Oolong. Notes of roasted chestnut, bark, fresh butter, honey suckle, and cinnamon can be detected. Due to the age of this tea, some mineral notes may also be detected. This tea has a silky mouth feel and is sweet and buttery.
Caramel Vanilla Assam-24% Off-Caramel Vanilla Assam pairs our Premium Taiwanese Assam with rich caramel and soft vanilla. The caramel and vanilla notes meld with the tea and almost taste as though they are naturally part of the Assam. Cacao, raisin, and citrus notes can also be detected in this smooth and malty tea. Add a little sugar for a decadent caramel vanilla dessert.
Peppermint Patty-30% Off-What better way to wind down the day than with chocolate and mint? Our Peppermint Patty pairs organic marshmallow leaf, a naturally sweet caffeine-free herb, with sweet organic peppermint, and mellow milk chocolate. This light and refreshing herbal works well as an after dinner treat. With each sip, the flavor grows stronger and lingers longer. Add a little sugar to intensify the chocolate flavor. Please research all precautions before consuming any herbal tisane.
Sencha Superior-30% Off-This superior sencha originates from Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan and is a light-steamed sencha that has a savory flavor and semi-brisk finish that’s almost sweet.
New Teas
Peach HoppiTea-Our Peach HoppiTea is a variation of a custom blend. This blend pairs our Nepalese Organic Guranse black tea base with Cascade Hops and peaches. The black tea base provides an almost sparkling quality. Cascade hops adds a touch of bitterness, somewhat like grapefruit, and is unmistakably hoppy. The peaches add a hint of sweetness that contrasts the bitterness well. The combination of these three ingredients creates a truly unique tea. We recommend allowing this tea to cool to a warm temperature for a more beer-like flavor. For a sweeter flavor, sugar may be added but will reduce the intensity of the hops. http://www.butikiteas.com/Black.html
Irish Breakfast-Our Irish Breakfast combines our Khongea Golden Tippy Assam and Hattialli Golden Lion Assam with our Organic Ceylon. This strong malty breakfast tea has chocolate, raisin, oak, tobacco, and bready notes with a citrus finish. Irish Breakfast is smooth and sweet with a light astringent finish. http://www.butikiteas.com/Black.html

At the risk of sounding ignorant, I have to ask. Is Purple Tea of Kenya actual tea (camellia sinensis) or is it a tisane like rooibos or honeybush? I’ve never heard of it.
After having done some research, it appears that this is a tea. It appears to be a relatively new variety, and rare at that.
Purple tea does come from camellia sinensis. The purple variety is propagated by grafting and cutting as opposed to seeding. The leaves of the plant have a purple-ish hue since they contain high levels of anthocyanin. Due to those high levels of anthocyanin, purple tea is expected to contain more antioxidants than other types of tea. It is a very rare tea and was first made available for sale this year.
Question: So from my understanding “purple” tea refers to the cultivar that the leaves are from rather than how the leaves were processed. Therefore this isn’t a new category of tea but rather a new variety. This being said, that means you can still have black, green, etc teas that are from the “purple” tea cultivar. Is my understanding correct? And if so how has the purple tea that you sell been processed?
Put an order in btw, I’m excited to try it.
That is correct. If my memory serves, I believe this purple tea is processed similar to an oolong. I will double check and get you an answer.
Thanks for the order! As a side note, I find that playing around with time on this tea makes a big difference. I recommend trying different times between 3-5 minutes.
The process is apparently similar to a green but has also been at least partially oxidized.
By the end of the month I will also be getting in a white hand-rolled purple tea.
Also, if anyone is interested in Kenyan teas, I am starting to expand my selection. In addition to the Purple Tea of Kenya, I also have an orthodox black tea (Kenya Kangaita) and within the week will be selling White Whisper and Rift Valley (green).
Thanks for the research and looking forward to trying them, haven’t had much Kenyan tea yet and always excited to try new stuff.
I’ve been really liking some of the Kenya stuff I’ve found recently. In the past I really didn’t find too much from Kenya that interested me.
We would LOVE to review any of your Purple teas over at Sororitea Sisters if you would like us to! :)
That’s funny, I just sent you an email mentioning our purple tea.
YOu can try this one also http://www.tealux.ca/99_oxidized_purple_oolong?category_id=0&search_string=purple#.UNCkplRk1DA
Ava-It’s not really appropriate to make sales pitches in another company’s sale thread. I wouldn’t do that to one of your threads.
I just made my order yesterday. I can’t wait to try the purple tea (and all the samples!)
Great! I hope you enjoy the tea! I highly recommend trying this tea at different steep times.

Glad you said something stacy…I was kind of thinking the same thing
Sil-Glad to hear you were thinking the same thing and that I’m not just crazy.
I think Steepster is a great place for vendors and tea enthusiasts to connect but as tea professionals we should be respectful of each other.
Agreed. Perhaps pop an email to Jason to have these comments deleted? This person is clearly not an active user, and I think it’s highly inappropriate as well.
