Tea infused specialty drinks

Hello!

Has anyone ever created tea infused speciality drinks using a base of tea, or tea as an ingredient along with other spices, herbs, etc. The tea can be either flavoured or straight, and hopefully you can taste the tea in the end product! I was doing some experimenting at home and iced some Moroccan Mint and then let a Rosemary sprig and cucumber slice infuse and sit in it overnight. The result was a very delicate balance of herbs and really refreshing! Any other ideas that use other ingredients/techniques?

Looking forward to hearing some!

The answer is yes!

Just the other day I finally got to try to make a alcoholic drink (does that count as special? :D) with a tea.

I had about 3 teaspoons of 52teas Strawberry Zabaglione in about 2 cups of pure vodka. In less than an hour the tea had steeped (I know you can steep a lot longer in alcohol but this was just right, it had a VERY strong tea flavour!) and I mixed it with some tonic water and a bit of simple syrup, it was awesome. Next I want to make infused pumpkin chai vodka for my eggnog this season.

Yum!

We make some amazing iced teas that are more like cocktails – you can find the recipes here : http://americantearoom.com/tea-recipes.html We also have a new list of tea cocktails that will be on our site shortly…but we make awesome Lychee Black Tea MarTEAni’s, Marrakesh Mint Green Tea Mojitos and this week debuted out Red Hot Toddy!

Thanks for the link, there’s some awesome recipes I have to try now :)

That Moroccan Mint mixed drink sounds like it would be really tasty…

I’m glad this topic came up, even though I’ve never actually tried this myself. I’ve been meaning to for a long time. Another somewhat related thing I’ve been meaning to do more of is cooking with tea or tea infused things. One of my favorite cookbooks that I own is this one in which all the recipes use tea in some way. I’ve made this Chocolate Oolong Bread that is TO DIE FOR, quite possibly one of the most chocolate-y breads I’ve ever eaten.

As far as drinks go, a tea mixed drink that I’ve always wanted to try is a black tea and Irish cream liqueur mix (like Bailey’s or Emmett’s). I’m fairly sure it will go over well, I just haven’t got around to it yet. :3

One night my best friend and I spent the night trying to come up with awesome alcoholic tea drinks to serve at our friend’s bachelorette party. We ended up having way too much and forgetting to write down the recipes but it was a lot of fun. We really liked making coconut cream pie rooibos & coconut rum drinks. I did end up perfecting an amazing Strawberry Teatini. Here is the recipe: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=171062272927069

No, I do not start out mixing my teas. But at times after 3rd infusion I tend to add a green tea bag to whatever I was consuming earlier in the day; most time it is still nice with one exception; which was when I attempted this with the Indian Mocha Chai. did not mix well at all. So I must leave the mocha chai alone; when flavor is gone, rinse the cup and start over.

Last night I did some more playing around, and pulled a RedEspresso Rooibos shot, filled a glass with ice, filled it 2/3rds full with coke (the pop kind), topped with Rooibos, and spiked with lemon juice. SO GOOD.

Sometimes after collecting a day’s heap of steeped green tea leaves, I put them in a pitcher, add cold water, and the next day I mix it with lemon juice or use it instead of water in blending fruit smoothies.
