Constant Comment goes back to my younger days, and my first loose leaf was Market Spice from Pike Place. A friend from up there gave me a massive quantity. I said what if I don’t like it? He said, no chance of that… He was right.

The very first tea that started me drinking was Bigelow Cinnamon Apple (tisane, actually) with enough sugar that it kinda reminded me of spiced apple cider.

Constant Comment, when I was about five years old. Still one of my favorites, especially the Decaf variety for bedtime and the green tea for work. It’s so spicy and citrusy, and really helped define my preferences for tea! (for example I love any kind of spicy tea.)

It’s kind of embarassing, but for me it was Tazo’s “Zen” blend! The first loose-leaf tea that got me hooked was a local grocer’s Moroccan Mint mix.

That would be whatever loose-leaf black my grandfather used to make and serve me in a tall plastic cup (a teacup wasn’t big enough for him and that was his preferred alternative!). I never knew or cared what it was but that is how I started drinking.

The first one I repeatedly bought and fanatically drank was Twinings English Breakfast.

It was one of Adagio’s samplers for new customers! Before that I drank tea mostly for the warmth and caffeine, but Adagio was the place that really introduced me to loose leaf, the variety of teas available outside the grocery store, and drinking tea primarily for the taste.

Way before I ever started drinking tea on a regular basis, I started collecting tea sets, starting first with miniatures, and then moving on to collecting teacups/saucers and teapots, as they represented happy memories from my childhood. Finally, I decided I have all these wonderful sets, I needed to find something to put in them except the grocery store fodder. The first real tea that made me realize that I could become a serious tea drinker was a lovely chocolate tea that I found in Orange, CA in an antique shop that also had a tiny little tea shop in it… it has now since closed, and when it closed, I set off to learn how to blend and flavor teas myself in an effort to replicate that chocolate tea… and that’s how LiberTEAS (the business) got its start.

I bet that is more information than you wanted, huh?
