I mailed out the TTB “Your item was processed through and left our PHILADELPHIA, PA 19116 facility on February 26, 2010. The item is currently in transit to the destination.”

Weeeeeeeeeeell, you’re gonna have to wait a while. :) I put you towards the end of the list at your request and we’re not even halfway yet. :)

Not sure about the exact number, I can’t look it up right now, but I think we’re around a quarter of the way through. Maybe a third.

Ok, this is too cool! How do we get added to the next tea box list? I just joined Steepster yesterday. Could I just start a box? What if 10 people start boxes and really get this moving?! I’ve got some tea that I just got directly from Yunnan Colorful in China that I would love to share.

From what I understand, there is no new box planned quite YET (best to focus on completing this one, I think—keep things organized, and too many boxes might get confusing), but there has been enough interest that I expect there will be future ones, and soon, and there will probably be a post made calling for interest and signups when it happens. Just watch out for one of those, I guess.

I think Jason said something about integrating future Travelling Teaboxes into Steepster itself too. Neat.

Confusing and expensive. I wouldn’t want to miss out on a TTB, but shipping for 10 boxes in a brief period of time would get expensive. For this reason, spreading them out makes it possible for more people to participate. Unlike swaps, the purpose of a TTB is to get the chain as long as possible vs. having many short chains going simulaneously. But there are also tons of tea swaps going on here. Just send someone a PM and most of the time they’ll be up for it.

ok, i can see that i didn’t think the whole process through….i was so excited by the idea. i was thinking that 10 different people could start their own chain…..not one person sending out all 10 boxes. What about several regional traveling tea boxes? The postage would be less. Anyway, i think that this traveling tea box is a GREAT IDEA!

I knew you meant 10 different people. But I love these kinda things so I’d wanna be involved in all 10 lol. I personally don’t like location limitations as long as a person is willing to ship for my above stated reasons. Not only do I like seeing where it’s been- it increases the chances to experience tea I’ve never heard of and maybe can’t even get in the US.

But that would be great if "after a while’’ they can open the TTB to new Steepster members!

They will. I doubt this’ll be the last one.

Angrboda said 2010-03-08 12:29:38 -0500

Lori, I took sign-ups all through december and that ended up some 30 people. It wasn’t until after the end of the sign-up period that I could plan the route so that the box made the most logical journey with the shortest possible shipping distances for most of the participants and crossing as few national borders as possible in the process.

I can assure you that there WILL be future rounds of TTBs, but I can’t at this point tell you exactly when this will be.

As a TTB voyeur, I’d enjoy seeing a list of what each person is taking out (and what they are putting in but I can see why people wouldn’t want to do that because of the element of surprise when the next person receives the box). It’s fun reading where the box is.

Small
AmazonV said 2010-03-08 07:50:02 -0500

inside the book is a log, perhaps once it reaches the end we could post a list of the (temporary) inhabitants of the box

Cofftea said 2010-03-08 10:48:30 -0500

I thought people were gonna do that. I was hoping this’d turn into a discussion about the TTB and the teas. I guess people didn’t want to do that.

Small
AmazonV said 2010-03-08 11:05:30 -0500

i know i was too excited to get the box out to even remember what i put in or too out :-( if the next person to get the box wants to photo copy /scan mine i can transcribe my scribbles and add logic behind my choices

Angrboda said 2010-03-08 12:25:39 -0500

At the end of the round when it returns to me there WILL be a great big rounding up post about it, don’t worry.

Cofftea, this thread isn’t actually meant for a discussion of the TTB as such, I intended it more to be the place where people could leave a message when they got it and when they had sent it on to the next person so we could keep track of it. As for a discussion of the teas, a lot of people have been posting about the ones they’ve tried in their own logs.

Cofftea said 2010-03-08 13:01:46 -0500

I realize that Angrboda. But having the discussion in one place sure would be nice. Having it just on all the various tasting notes makes it extremely impractical for allowing everyone to take part. I spend quite a bit of time here, probably in the top for people involved and even I don’t want to have to “chase down” tasting notes. Ease generates more participation- w/ anything.

Jason said 2010-03-08 13:26:35 -0500

We will definitely look to do another TTB soon and hopefully we can incorporate it as part of the site later on. We’ll take a look at all of these aspects and try to come up with something that appeals to the most people possible :)

Small
chana said 2010-03-09 01:06:37 -0500

Wasn’t there some mention of putting up a map of where the TTB has been? Without specific addresses or names of people participating? Or am I just imagining that? I didn’t go back through the thread to check, sorry….

Angrboda said 2010-03-10 04:57:14 -0500

There was, yes, and I’m still planning something along those lines. It’s just been postponed a bit, but I know how I want to do it.

March 13, 2:45 PM: It just arrived at my house and I need to go out. I opened it and was treated to a magnificent aroma.
How nifty is this? I’ll write more later.

OK, I’ll try to take a picture. I don’t know if I’ll know how to post it, however. I have added one thing so far which weighs very little—a hand-knit tea cozy. It’s for anyone who wants it although if Angrboda would like it, it might be nice to leave it for her.

if you have a flickr account, after you upload the images you add them to the group – if you don’t have a flicker account and don’t want one I am sure that someone (I will if you’d like) would be glad to post them into the group for you.

PS-if you can take pictures of or scan or other similar my pages, as i completely forgot what i put in and took out and would love a list i’d be grateful (i was too excited to remember to make two copies of the notes!)
