who sweetens your green or white?

I do like adding some organic agave nectar to my white teas but I do get grief from my more experienced tea drinking family and friends. Is it really a faux pas?

I’m not sure if it is in fact a faux pas but if that is what you prefer then go for it. I myself prefer flavored white teas so sweetener is unnecessary.

I will say almost two years ago I would sweeten every tea that I got. Back then I only bought tea from Teavana. I used regular white sugar and then switched to german rock sugar. Now I would not even think about adding sugar to any tea, but chai and a few black dessert teas. Even then I do not add much or I use agave nectar like yourself. I have not really been drink any flavored teas either so that might be another thing.

I say drink it the way you like it. :) Its your tea and your taste buds.

I drink all of my teas with a touch of sugar. I recently made myself a cup of tea and forgot the sugar and very much noticed the lack. Drink your tea the way you enjoy it…there’s no sense in wasting time and good tea on something you don’t enjoy!

I’m not usually fond of sweet drinks, but I do find that some teas take sugar better than others. I can imagine that some flavored greens or whites would be good with sugar. I feel that some teas would only be ruined with the addition of sweetener. But in the end, it’s up to the drinker to decide. Drink it the way you like it. :)

I like to add sweetener to spicy teas – I feel it brings out the flavors. But I’m a Sweet Tooth Queen who will use any excuse to consume something sweet. ;) Don’t feel bad and/or apologize – your tea is an expression/extension of yourself. :) Enjoy at will! :)

It’s strictly up to you. If a tea tastes better to you with a little agave nectar, then by all means add it.

I’ve never used sweetener in my greens or oolongs, and nowadays I seldom sweeten my black teas either. I usually use unsweetened almond milk in black tea, which somehow makes sweetener unnecessary. Of course, some people consider adding almond milk (or any milk) to any tea a “faux pas,” but who cares? They can take their tea the way they like it, and I’ll take mine the way I like it.

I use either rock cane sugar, or organic unpasturized honey. I also ocasionally use white sugar, or splenda. It all depends what I have at hand.

Its okay if iced, hot…well to me its heresy! The purpose of tea is to enjoy its natural flavor and not diluted by sweeteners, flavors, or blends. Sweeteners, flavors, and blends are used to mask teas that are less flavorful, low to mediocre quality, or basically undrinkable because of astringency, bitterness, boldness, etc . I do not exactly know what types of greens or whites you are drinking. I must say if you are drinking a gyokuro green or anything other than sencha or an expensive white tea, drink for the taste of leaves, what you pay for good tea is not in the additives or sugars but what it is naturally grown and harvested for the pleasure of the palate. Call me mean or what not, I’m just trying give tips so that you can get your moneys worth of a possibly expensive teas.
