Don't like honey in tea
I don’t like honey in tea either! Except in my favorite hibiscus tea, which I think is too tart by itself, so it needs sweetening a bit. But in regular black or green tea, I think honey disguises the real flavour of the tea.
I don’t normally sweeten my tea and I only use honey if I have nothing else to sweeten it with. I only like using honey in a few teas though. Mostly herbals, though I will use it with chai.
For me, it really depends on the blend and my mood. I love it in my Margaret’s Hope and Rooibos teas. Other’s, esp the flavoured ones don’t go so well. I use nothing, or agave in those.
Having good quality honey helps to. The low quality stuff can be so scratchy!
I have very organic, local honey and it is amazing. I could eat it with a spoon it is so good. I especially love when it starts crystallizing, as it’s like spreading candy on my toast. However, I despise the way it tastes in black tea. I’m not sure what it is… it tastes sweet but also like I didn’t get all the soap out of the mug, or something. Hard to put into words.
Acacia honey is perfect for tea. Very mild honey flavor (nothing like regular storebought honey). Very sweet, so a little goes a long way. I prefer it over sugar in any tea I want to sweeten. I love sinking my spoon into the honey jar and drizzling it into my cup while I wait for the tea to steep. :)
