Here is a youtube video (a slideshow, really) of the process I took to season my new Yixing dragonfly teapot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_W_jrmREAvQ
I used audio that seemed perfect for this, both in provenance and sound, but I will have to change that soon since I don’t have copyright permission for it. So if you want to see it as I would like to be, you’ll have to visit this week. After this week it will be up with different music.
Let me know what you think!
Hi, You’re a Firefly fan. How cool. Are you on Fireflyfan.org?
I’m Teacompanion, there, but I haven’t made a post yet.
Love your teapot. I thought the color was particularly attractive as well as the shape.
Hi! I’m a Firefly fan and a fan of Joss Whedon’s oeuvre in general. I’m not on fireflyfan.org. In general, I am a quiet fan that doesn’t do much on the various sites.
Thank you for the teapot praise! I love my little Serenity.
The teapot and the music are beautiful.
How much leaf did you use to season it? Would you go about seasoning a mug the same way?
Also, would it be possible for takgoti to put the link to her wonderful Sorapot video here? I can’t remember where it is.
Thank you!!! I love her video!
Carolyn, I love your video. So detailed; both in your process and on the teapot itself! The narration was fantastic, the teapot is beautiful, and I think it’s perfect that you named it Serenity. [Also, I have to admit that I kinda squee’d as soon as I heard the music.]
It is perfect music for that, isn’t it? This is part of my beloved’s argument for why my video is “tea porn”. He says that using Inara’s slightly erotic bathing scene music to bathe my teapot, just proves my inappropriately lustful focus on the teapot. (Sometimes it is a challenge to live with an academic.) I will have to replace the music, but since I know that you’re such a Firefly fangirl, I had to leave it there for just a while.
Thank you for your kind words about the video. I adore the teapot. I’d worried that 4.5 ounces would be too small but as it turned out Serenity is perfect for the kind of resteeping one must do with puerhs to thoroughly enjoy them.
I am sitting here sipping my #1 – Damn fine Tea – Nepal with its floral, sweet aftertaste being poured fm my S/S (yet elegantly stylish) tea pot and I now yearn for a YiXing of puerh, but which little vessel of joy do I use…ah? but one of my little joys is set aside for my precious oolongs as well. I am unsure now…I will sit for this moment and not envy or wish for another but just enjoy what I have before me…my Nepal fm Damn Fine Teas…joy!!! (beautiful videos ladies)
Thank you! How many little vessels of joy do you have?
I hesitate to say only that it will show my over indulgence…maybe seven or could it be eight? Not counting the beautiful pots fm Japan and some english, former east german. I did not realize I had a collection as this until I began to write this dwn. I feel so, so, so materialistic! But I love tea pots, the pottery, the artform, the knowledge that someone has put their life into such a creation. Oh well! Time for a tea.
Pictures of tea:
Because I take a lot of pictures and at least some of them should be of tea.
I love your photography. It has such beautiful lines. This is my favorite: Harney & Sons | Dragon Pearl Jasmine http://www.flickr.com/photos/takgoti/4251173441/in/set-72157623022462169/
I assume you did it by arranging dry tea with wet tea leaves?
Thank you! It’s a much loved hobby of mine. An expensive, much loved hobby.
And yep, bingo!
Awesome pictures, takgoti! I really REALLY need to get a glass teapot!
Here is my online album of tea related pictures (7 pages worth)… which are basically all of the pictures I use for my blog posts: http://s545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/IdentiTEA/Pics%20for%20Blog/?start=0
I really liked the one showing your teaware cabinets. It’s charming that you even have a tea towel with a teapot on it. Thanks for sharing your photos.
If anyone finds one of those for sale, let me know. I’d love to have one of those!! A yellow submarine tea infuser.
The Murchie’s near where I live sells tea balls shaped as miniature teapots. Both me and the retail clerk where highly amused by them. Actually, a bit like these…
although a little cheaper—the little holder tray that came with them were merely plastic. I thought of getting one, but they were rather small and constrictive-looking, and I’d rather a larger mesh one. On that note, I should take a snapshot of the mesh one I do have. Instead of a hook on the end, it has a porcelain teacup-shaped weight—which isn’t the most practical, but I like it.
My favorite tea pot and mug, with a tray cloth made by my grandmother. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4027/4304248446_6ac22999b1_o.jpg
For the political crowd:
Tea with the Queen anyone?
