My tea cupboard was getting unorganized and hard to manage so I searched for a “larger container” to keep everything in. Just so happened to find a hutch on Craigslist for…wait for it…$30! The catch was that it was missing one shelf and needed to be painted…

] Done! Added: a Scarab cabinet pull that I found at Anthropologie and labeled boxes (to store small bags of tea). I use the bottom compartments to store extra tins, labels, and bags. One side of the hutch is holding my flavored syrups but I imagine that it’s just a matter of time before I replace them with more tea. :-)

Here’s where I keep my soon-to-sample teas;
-Metal containers (on one side of my fridge) that I attached magnetic adhesive sheets to and use removable labels to write type/brand/sender. This was my solution to constantly misplacing tea samples that I received in the mail…or finding samples and not knowing who they were from (embarrassing).

That cabinet is BEAUTIFUL – great job refinishing it!!!! I need to start watching those type of site for bargains like that!!!

can you come over and do some beautiful organizing of my teas? The hutch is stunning after you painted it

SarsyPie said

Wow, impressive. You gave the hutch a totally updated look. I really love it!

Beautiful!

Thank you everyone!

@Dexter, it’s a great way to find inexpensive storage items…plus spending less on shelving means more to spend on tea! ;D

wow! Love the new color!

What kind of tins are those for the samples?

LuciTea I found them at Michaels in the “wedding favors” section. $19 for 30 (or get a better deal with their 40% off coupon). http://www.michaels.com/celebrate-it-occasions-tin-favor-box/10172568.html

It would be neat to combine using those for smaller quantities and cutting the original labels off and putting them on these to keep the light out.

I like Marzipan’s idea. Alternatively, you could use some Avery labels the size of the window

That cabinet is great! You did an awesome job bringing that one back to life! Hubby is thinking of letting me do some furniture refurb stuff in our oversized shed one of these days… so much fun to see the transformation.

That cabinet is amazing! THIRTY!?!?

Suziqzer Thank you! _ You should!! When you do, post some pics of the transformation! I love before and after pics.

Tea Sipper Thank you! Yup $30…I know right?! It really didn’t look nice when I checked it out (missing shelving) and the decorative accent part of it looks like melamine (plastic). It’s a wonder what a fresh coat of paint can do! ;)

When I lived with my parents I kept everything in the cabinet below the cereal. My parents don’t drink much tea so they mixed in rice and pasta.. not very organized.

Then came marriage, then apartment, and then house. When I first walked in there was a room to the left that was perfect… (or so I felt) to be a tea room. I told my husband. You can do whatever else you want with this house… I just want this room.

It’s like you have your own cozy cafe/tea bar!

I always thought that owning a tea / coffee shop on a beach would be awesome.

Another amazing cabinet — it DOES look like a tea bar for some reason. :D

i just found this thread… and i’m scratching my head.

how do you all have such huge stashes of tea? do you drink them all or do they just sit there?

i’m trying to narrow down about 6 in total i like that i can keep on hand continuously, such as: straight black, earl grey style, jasmine, berry style, and 2 unique blends.

I drink tea all day, maybe 5 cups a day on average. I also have an 18-year-old daughter who drinks a couple of cups a day. Up until this point we have been in the “must try all the teas” phase, but I could see me getting it down to maybe 40 or so on hand instead of what I have now.

I second Marzipan I drink about 4-6 cups of tea a day, sometimes more, sometimes less. And since I’m still new to the world of loose leaf, I’m trying to sample a bunch of things to see what I like. I don’t have nearly as much as some people on here (I wish), but I don’t think I can ever go back to only 6 kinds. Right now I have 40 teas, most of which are around 20-50g or less.

I wish I could drink that many a day!!! I just like to have variety =p

Here’s mine, I think I need a bigger cupboard =( Most of my teas are stored else where since I have no room. http://tinypic.com/r/2bz4na/8

Thanks!

I’d be stacking similar mugs. Ive got so much crammed into my cupboard its crazy. I’ll have to post a pic soon.

Something tells me that you like Harney & Sons ;) …and whatever that bunny is for, it’s adorable (the elephant too)!

The bunny is a tea pet, elephant is a strainer and I do events with iced teas, so I need huge bags of tea.

That’s awesome! Admittedly, I had to look up tea pet… and now I want one. :P

Here’s how I am stashing my teas. Jelly jars I got from Walmart. 12 for $9.

Those are really cute! Direct light can degrade the tea, though. Have you thought about covering them with decorative tape or paint?

(please ignore the mess! I cropped out as much I could)
Most everything is from T2, except the top box which is Dilmah’s blueberry-vanilla, and the melon-cucumber white, which is from Harrod’s. The little round green one is bagged English Breakfast. The little black pouches in front are samplers – a Darjeeling and Hobart Breakfast (apple-y black tea).

Not all the tins are completely full. And even though they are Davidstea tins, there are a few that are other companies.
Anyways, be kind with your comments. haha and I have a few more teas on the way… two 50g bags and a 100g tin… oops…

Ost said

Wow! That’s a lot! :O How long did it take you to get that much tea?

boychik said

That’s very organized and not a lot by my standards.

Ost said

Not by your standards? How much tea do you have, Boychik? 0_0

TheKesser said

lol Boychik I’m definitely curious to see yours now too!

It’s taken probably around three years to accumulate that much. haha

Check out my cupboard, not everything is in there and I don’t include samples( unless they are huge). I only have 3 boxes medium flat rate of my puerh cakes on a top of my bookcase. No pics until Sept, I’m in my summer house now

It looks nice to me – very organized and I think that is a reasonable amount of tea

I got some great ideas on this thread, specifically the shelf and glass jars (which I already owned, and have put to good use !).

This is not everything. There’s also a whole cupboard shelf in use, as well as some hidden teas that my boyfriend doesn’t know about!

That looks lovely!

nice!

Thanks Kaylee & Madametj! It’s a work in progress!

Hannah: It’s actually a cookie jar, but I keep doggie treats in there. :)

Guys, I just got a brand new cabinet JUST FOR STORING MY TEA today, and I’m so excited.

For the past few months, I’ve been storing my tea on the dining-room table in various colour-coded boxes. The whole pile was getting unwieldy, though. Combine that with general the re-arranging of things in the house since we’re going to have a garage sale, and voila: I decided to buy a tea cabinet to make things nice and tidy.

Here’s the cabinet I found off of Kijiji for only $25: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1haxtof31by9csf/2014-08-24%2015.24.29.jpg?dl=0

Here’s the “before” picture for my stash – note all the clutter: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hw6og6eh34biqgl/2014-08-24%2015.24.49.jpg?dl=0

And here’s the “after” picture of my shiny new cabinet in place, with all of my teas nicely organized! https://www.dropbox.com/s/rpsm0ye6axea035/2014-08-24%2017.40.45.jpg?dl=0

EEE! Now I have boxes separating out my straight greens and blacks from my flavoured greens and blacks, a box separating my rooibos teas from my other caffeine-free teas, and a box separating out my oolongs and pu’erhs – and there’s enough room for all of my teapots and gaiwans!

Sorry guys, I can’t stop gushing here. I’ve been planning this thing for over a week.

Looks awesome! I love your teapots too. :D
