Ok so at a yard sale I found this empty spice rack with all empty glass jars so I got it for $3 took it home washed it and tada! Now it’s full of loose tea that Friends on steepster have given me and it keeps them fresh!!! I got colors dots at a scrapbooinf area and wrote the names and colored them to David’s teas colors but with no black I did white for black tea!

It looks beautiful and I don’t want to dampen your enthusiasm, but I thought that tea was supposed to be stored in opaque containers, so light doesn’t get to it. Is that inaccurate?

I keep my teas in mason jars in a big cupboard and they don’t get direct sunlight or anything. I haven’t had any problems. It looks like the way they are placed in the rack that they aren’t really exposed to a lot of sun. Since they’re also in a dark room, and you drink them frequently, I think they’ll be fine. I think it’s a really cute way to keep your tea!

I wonder if painting the jars an opague color(s) would help? and it also depends on where the light sources are located to0.

Sare said 2012-09-28 08:43:52 -0400

I buy canning jars, both pints and quarts; glue the lids to the rings and paint the outsides of the jars with a couple coats of black acrylic. Airtight, light-proof and inexpensive. Labels are attached to the lids.

Can I just say that I absolutely love seeing the pictures of the “stashes”? It’s really interesting and some of you look as if you could open shops right from your homes! I love seeing how you store them all and the love you put into it.

Yea I had to figure something out for all the samples and swaps I have gotten. They were everywhere, counter, cupboard, bags, boxes. And then I received 4 swap packages in one day. Disorganized nightmare.

I like those white tins with the black stencil designs on them, very nice. Did you do them yourself?

Small
Mrnixonpants said 2012-10-04 18:33:09 -0400

No I didn’t do that myself but I wish I was more crafty like that. I bought the tins at Ikea. Thanks for all the compliments I love having it all next to my kettle it’s very convenient.

Small
Ellyn said 2012-10-04 19:35:48 -0400

I have those same tins! They work great and are pretty. My tea is all stored in a cabinet though and does not look so nifty.

I love the tea desk and recently got rid of a similar unit! Dang! Tonight I had the thought of moving my tea prep area into my living room. It would have been perfect.

Thanks! I’m happy that desk is finally getting used. I love displaying all of my tea stuff. You should have! I don’t have much of a living room so the gigantic kitchen is where everything stays.

This is my Comfort Zone lol. Yes you can prolly see my secret pack of smokes in there, anyways I hope you like my pics :)
