Aloha Everyone! I new here :)

Aloha,

I am new to the community and wanted to say Hello and introduce myself. I have ben drinking tea obsessively since 2005. While studying at Tokai University in Kanagawa Japan I was sent kicking and screaming to a Chado lecture on Urasenke and the National Treasure Yakimono bowls. I was shocked to find out how much I loved this and I had the pleasure of meeting Urasenke Grandmaster Hounsai Hanso Genshitsu… the 15th descendant of Sen on Rikyu father of the Tea Ceremony. The rest is history ( excuse the pun ) and i did eventually wash my hand :).

Like most Americans I had a love hate relationship with tea, I loved the canned sweet teas and hated brewed teas. When I found out we were doing wrong by over steeping or burning teas, I discovered the flavors and peacefulness in looseleaf teas. I am an addict for sure.

I’m still learning more and would love to know more about you guys and when was it you know you fell in love with tea and or tea culture.

Aloha and Mahalo,
Doc

Welcome! Thanks for your story, that sounds like an amazing experience. A trip to London kindled my love of tea… I fell for a nice pot of Earl Grey.

Hello DocRock, welcome to the community. Tea has a pretty bad rep across many people that haven’t experienced premium loose leaf. Glad to hear you’ve come over!

Hi DocRock, welcome to Steepster!
I’ve loved loose tea for about two years now. It has completely taken over my life, in a good way!!
I have to admit, I’m a tad jealous that you were in Japan… surrounded by so much yummy tea :)

Hey welcome… Did you ever get a chance to visit the Ippodo shop in Kyoto? That will be on my list if I visit Japan.

I attended an introductory demonstration at the Urasenke center in Manhattan a few years back. Cool stuff. I love the accoutrements, although ordering Japanese teaware via ebay can lead to a teaware addiction…
