I’ve been listening to a lot of Incubus lately, this one is great to listen to while enjoying some tea

Love Incubus! I used to attend the HFSestivals in DC for a now-defunct and seriously missed radio station. Incubus was there quite often, and even set the stage on fire during Megalomaniac. Classic! :)

Good music I usually make ringtones for my phone at: https://worldringtones.net/

I listen to metal, my favorite being progressive metal, but I have a few guilty pleasure bands that are thrash/black/death screamy music like Children of Bodom and Arsis. I think in the end I find metal a release of tension and stress.

My fav bands are:
Devin Townsend, he’s got some fun stuff http://youtu.be/H5BqyluKkk0
Agaollch http://youtu.be/z4ih3JVrRPE
Ayreon (rock opera tastic) http://youtu.be/plkne8iNYx0

Can you head bang and drink tea? I pull it off…

Love Devin Townsend. So sad I missed the concert the last time he came around, though I did catch him live once.

I’ve seen him live since the Strapping Young Lad days, since I used to live in his home town. He’s on tour right now and I’m going to see him next week, woot!

I better look up some tour dates. His shows are always fun. Have fun!

Me too, good to see some metal heads here.

I’m seeing Devin Townsend with Katatonia and Paradise Lost later this month. I miss the SYL days though.

Opeth is by far my favorite http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OleNkTc8D1E

A Devin fan too! I’d kill to see that Epic Kings & Idols tour, but they’re coming to Vancouver on the first day of my classes, and I live on Vancouver Island, and it would be impossible to go. Ugh.

I’ve seen him live with SYL three times and once last year with the Devin Townsend Project.

YAY! Another metal fan! I love In Flames and Dark Tranquility. :)

I’m a bit all over the place. I love Industrial, but old Industrial not the new stuff (Skinny Puppy being my favorite band). Love Experimental, Noise, Ambient, Political Hip Hop, Rap, Metal, 80s, Jazz, Classical, World Music (especially Indian and Arabic), 60s, 70s, D&B, IDM, Dubstep (new & old), Electronic, Goth, some Pop (not a lot though), Punk and Reggae. Recently I have been listening to a lot of Amon Tobin, Tom Waits, Nina Simone, Fear Factory, RATM, Tool, Legendary Pink Dots, Bob Dylan, Coil, Einsturzende Neubauten, Venetian Snares, and Throbbing Gristle.

Browsing through Youtube and found this IDM dance performance. Thought it was pretty interesting. Takes a little while to get into it though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VtnWa5kui0

I love these kind of threads, great opportunity to check out some great music. My musical tastes are wildly eclectic, I think I could list a couple of pages worth of the types of music and bands, and still not list half of them. Thank the gods for sites like Pandora and Youtube, otherwise I would of gone crazy without being able to buy music.

The only genre I have not found anything I like: Opera. And trust me…..I’ve tried.

Classical: When I am in the mood to appreciate it, has to be the kind that fills you up, electrifies. Like 1812 Overture, Ride of the Valkries, The Planets.
Folk Music from all over the world: (Though not many distinct favorites right now. Have not listened to a bunch, with exception of Celtic, but that will be a separate category.) Russian, Greek, Middle Eastern, Polish, and of course Fusion. (Where different styles of music/instruments are played together.)
Celtic/Celtic Rock: Emerald Rose, Gaelic Storm, The Popes, Flogging Molly, Slaid Cleaves, (Don’t know if he would be classified as Celtic, but most people I know that like Celtic, end up liking him when I play the one cd I have of his.) Blaq Lily. High Kings, Celtic Thunder. I don’t listen to much Celtic anymore due to listening to it almost solidly (occasionally punctuated with other stuff for over 10 years.)
Dead Can Dance-(Fusion group, plenty of Mid East influences.)
Folk Rock-(Grew up on Folk Rock, so this is kind of a standard go-to-music in just about any mood.) Ok traditional: Peter, Paul, and Mary, Simon and Garfunkel. Some Kingston Trio. Joni Mitchell (Case of You being my #1. Fave song.)Mamas and Papas, Buffalo Springfield, (Namely For what it’s Worth.) Everly Bros. The Association Cat Stevens, (Morning has Broken.)James Taylor, Carly Simon. Newer: Dar Williams.

Unclassified but associated with Folk, (to me that is.) John Denver, Jim Croce, Moody Blues, Mike Oldfield Band, Magna Carta (Only discovered the last two thanks to a music thread on another site. In the last 2-3 years.)Peter Gabriel. Gaia Consort, Craig Olson, Jimmy Buffet (Come Monday. I cannot stand listening to Margaritaville anymore.)

Heavy Metal: When I think of heavy metal, I think of bands like Metallica, not the screamy/growley stuff. I appreciate the energy in it, but can’t stand listening to it. There are however a few exceptions and groups who don’t scream/growl. The Gathering, Hammerfall, Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, Vanadis, Arkona, (Some of these bands would be classified as Folk Metal…a concept I find really cool.) Nightwish, Omnia, Eluveitie. Inkubis Sukkubus. Zeeza (Points of Five.)

Some that I think is Electronica/Techno: Pendulum, Puscifer. Qntl, Faith and The Muse, Enigma, Achillea, Kan’nal, Placebo, (Love their remake of Kate Bush’s Running up That Hill.) Pisces Projekt,
Steampunk/associated: Abney Park, Dr. Steel, Voltaire, Clockwork Quartet, Mr. B Gentleman Rhymer, Professor Elemental, Reconstructing Alice, Frenchy and the Punk, Amy Studt, (Just a little girl.)

Rock: Pink Floyd, Alchemy VII, Coven, Tom Petty, Genesis, Phil Collins, Mike and The Mechanics, Grace Slick, (with Airplane and Starship.) Some Rolling Stones, (Paint it Black. and I like Inkubus Sukkubus’s remake.) Sam Cooke (Wonderful World, Chain Gang, Cupid.) Some Beach Boys, (Never been a huge fan, but have found myself liking a few of their songs.) Eric Clapton, The Beatles. (Again, never been a huge fan, but I appreciate them more now.) Sting, (with and without The Police.) some Rod Stewert, Bryan Adams. Bob Seger, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Dan Fogelberg. Gordon Lightfoot, (If you could read my mind….I kind of like the 90’s remix of it, but only in a club.)

Motown-The Spinners, Smokey Robinson,

Unclassified/multi -Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, The Bee Gees, (only a few.) Elton John, David Bowie, (Space Oddity.)The Carpenters, Conway Twitty, (Rainy Night in Georgia with Sam Moore, and It’s Only Make Believe. ) Mr.Mister, Eric Carmen, Howard Jones, Oingo Boingo, Loverboy, Thompson Twins, Peter Cetera, (With or without Chicago.) Air Supply, 10,000 Maniacs, Natalie Merchant, Alanis Morrisette, Sheryl Crow, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Richard Marx, Kenny Rogers, (Many songs, but absolute fave is ‘Lady’) Pet Shop Boys, George Michael, (Mostly his 80’s and 90’s stuff, but his newer stuff is cool too.) John Mellencamp, Icehouse, (Great Southern Land.) Billy Joel, (Ever since I was a little girl: Longest Time.) Lisa Loeb, (Stay.) Blessid Union of Souls (I Believe.) PM Dawn,
Collective Soul, Ace of Base,

Bluegrass-Nickel Creek, Alison Kraus, The Wailing Jennys, Toshi Reagon.
Rap/Hiphop, Unclassified: Scream Club, God-des and She. Gravy Train.

LOL. Did I say that I love music threads? heh

I like opera-electronica fusion stuff. For example, there are some Maria Callas remixes that are amazing. Also, that track from the soundtrack of The Fifth Element. =)

wow, huge list! You probably listen to 30x the music I do!

Within Temptation and Eluveitie are amazing! Arggg, I’m still kicking myself for not seeing Eluveitie live when they came near me.

Saw Eluveitie with Amon Amarth, was an amazing show.

As a professional musician (Harpist/singer/songwriter, electric & acoustic, I play classical, jazz, rock, originals, & other stuff), I listen to all kinds of stuff. In the morning its Pandora “Calm meditation”. During the day, I have students, so I listen to them while sipping & teaching, mostly classical & Irish. Later it might be jazz, classic rock, or whatever, just depending on my mood.
