Thank you for giving us private messaging!!!! I think I speak for everyone when I say that we all adore our Steepster Overlords!
Yes! Now we can keep comments pertaining to tasting notes and can exchange messages w/ members w/o giving out our email or other people reading them.:)
Just wondering why some people don’t have the “send message” button by their name. Is it a privacy setting they have?
Because you can only send messages to people you are following AND who are also following you. The people without the button next to their name doesn’t fit into that category.
I have realised that I have misinformed you a little. It’s people who are following you that you can contact, regardless of whether or not you’re also following them. I initially thought it had to be mutual following.

OK, I think I need a for-dummies tutorial. I’d like to reply privately to a comment someone posted; I am following that person, but not vice versa at this time. When I go to to my inbox to send the message, I have a drop-down menu of recipients (names of the people I’m following, I thought…) but said recipient isn’t there. Is there someplace I can just type in the user name?

At this time, you are only able to send personal messages to people who are currently following you; as far as I know, this will remain unchanged, in order to protect the recipients from spam, etcetera.
Well, it does make sense to prevent unwanted messages. Thanks.
You can reply to a message sent to you by a person who isn’t following you, but you can’t send them a NEW message. If you click on the message they sent to you, there is a reply box underneath it.
