lol I don’t even really know how to use one yet – or what to use in one – I saw a thread about them and a youtube video which I subscribed to thinking I would get back to it later on once I experienced more and learned more. Alas there it was – right in my face – so I did that impulse buy and went for it. It will probably sit for awhile but I will have it when I need it. :)
haha mine was an impulse buy too because it has pandas painted on it, how could I not buy it? I use it for oolongs, puerhs would be good too.
Definitely a good deal. I have a few gaiwan and use them for basically any full leafed tea – oolong, pu-erh, chinese blacks, chinese greens, whites, etc. So basically anything! If it’s a Chinese loose tea, I’ll almost certainly brew it in a gaiwan at least once (usually more).
Here’s a really good youtube video about how to use a gaiwan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqP3lFPd1bw
I was lucky because my first experience with gongfu style brewing was in China and I had the opportunity to observe multiple people brewing in this style using gaiwan, so when I got home with my own new gaiwan, I just practiced emulating what I witnessed.
Keep in mind, it does take some practice, so just have patience with yourself!
Cool thank you so much for the link! I have subscribed to the videos as well so I can go back and check it out again when I have mine in hand. :)
Nothing like working a nice oolong through the gongfu method. It harkens to an earlier, less hectic time. I completely enjoy my gaiwan.
Azzrian, what do you think of the crane gaiwan? I’ve been considering buying that one and after my dragon one broke this morning… Does it seem like good quality?
David’s Tea gives 3 free samples with any online order. Shipping is either $5 in North America or free with over $50 spent.
I wish I could pick my samples, perhaps I’ll try in the comments of my order :)
I just made my first order from DavidsTeas But my sister in law got me this Wonderful box tea with a Bunch of different ones! There read my lips is AMAZING!! cant wait to get my package, my sister in law has some Problems with Rooibos teas and she Said she wrote them and they have not sent them since so you i def Suggest writing them :)

Let us know when your samples arrive; I’m curious as to how they are before I order my own.
Oh I forgot to update – One of my samples was great – one was not good but it was my design and the two flavors did not go well together, I forget about the third lol and the fourth is still in my stash but I did log on all of them on here. :)
Oh Design a Tea is neat! It’s too bad I don’t know the quality of their flavorings – some things like almond or caramel are really hit and miss. I think I’ll try a maple black tea :-) and maybe a fruity green one?
thanks to this thread, I won’t have to buy tea for a while! I have recently received some free samples from:
designatea.com (haven’t tried them yet)
fusiontearoom.com (I’ve tried two and they are AMAZING and generous samples.)
teavivre.com (HUGE amount of generous samples — also haven’t tried yet.)
thanks again to everyone who posted these!
Just wanted to say thank you to everybody who has updated this thread! You all rock!
I only have 1 small item to add: I recently did a big order from silk road teas (over $55) and the shipping was free plus they sent me this little clay teapot, which I actually do use.
