Looking for a high quality, well-insulated, LARGE thermos!!

I’m full of questions tonight. I own an Aladdin stainless steel thermos. I bought it from Target for about $20. It is THE BEST thermos I’ve ever owned. It keeps my water piping hot even overnight- the water will still hurt you the next morning. The only problem is it only holds about 2 cups of water. I am in love with it enough to buy two or three of them for my job, but that gets a bit unwieldy. Unfortunately, I haven’t found a larger thermos that really keeps water piping hot for hours. I bought a 40 oz Thermos brand thermos and not only does the water cool noticeably over the course of a day, but the darn thing leaks. Do any of you know of an extra large (40-oz or so) thermos that really lives up to the label?

Go for any outdoors brands. In Canada, MEC is a must :-) In the states, you could browse stores like REI and EMS.

I use two MEC thermos, one is 500ml (17 oz.) and one is 1000ml (34 oz.) Both of them can keep water fairly hot over night when they are full or almost full. But if you use a very large thermos and it’s only 1/3 full in the evening, it’s easier for the water to cool off over night.

The serving type of thermos (with a handle and a switch-off spout) usually has very low performance, because you can feel the area near the spout warm all the time. If the thermos feels warm anywhere on its outer surface, it guarantees poor function.

This is on my wishlist at Amazon, so I don’t have any personal experience to share, but it is 61 oz. and has great reviews (although Thermos brand, which you had a bad experience with).

Just found this:

And this:

Which may help for the office – I think you were asking about that – someone was.

Thank you for your ideas. I hadn’t thought of outdoor/sports stores. Anything that can keep soup hot when you’re out on ski patrol should be good for 8 hours in the office!

Zojirushi looks great, Excelsior. I love that they actually tell you how long their products retain heat. Thanks!
