I enjoy weak infusions as much as the first cup

I don’t figure myself cheap. I have made several large tea orders this month assisted by timely coupon offers (thanks Frank), but I tend to infuse at least three times and this is stuff that isn’t meant to go the distance. My 4gm tea sample can yield 64oz of tea- or tisane-flavoured water that I still enjoy because of the comfort sipping warm water gives me. But I look at my tea stash and would hate to drink stale tea because I took so long to get to using it.
Which types of tea would you not bother to resteep?

I find that berry/fruit tisanes rarely re-steep well, ditto for rooibos/honeybush. Of course, there are ALWAYS exceptions to those “rules” – Drink what you enjoy! : )

I almost never go for second steep with herbal and fruit. I could tell the same for breakfast teas (fannings and CTC). On the other hand I tend to brew Huang Shan Mao Feng at least five or six times.I stop when hot water overpowers the tea.

And as Uniquity said, drink your tea as you like it.

The Fusion Tea Room rooibos/honeybush tisanes I tried easily went two steeps. I am almost as bad as you mention. As long as it still has flavor and I am enjoying it I keep steeping. Simple solution is order smaller or order less.

More specific to your question, most black teas I don’t go past twice. Average greens 3 times. Puerhs – umm until the cows come home.

Fruit & berry teas give up the ghost by steep #3 I’ve learned. But some herbals last me longer than that. I drank my favorite Calypso Caribbean Mate from Teavana all day one time, yet more recently I haven’t enjoyed the weaker infusions as I did the first couple of times.

Green teas I’ve steeped for 6-8 times at work (Dragonwell worked well for this). Black dragon pearls last as long, too. I like multiple steepings because they are more convenient at the workplace.

The only teas I re-steep are yerba mate and some of the unflavored blacks I have tried. Other than that, I don’t have many teas that I re-steep.

You’re missing out on a whole world of oolongs and pu-erh! Try some high mountain oolongs from Rishi Tea, I got their Dong Pian Oolong to last 10 steepings, and it still had tons of flavor!

Oh, I am aware of that. lol. I just haven’t gotten there yet. Student budget. I am really looking forward to them though. Especially milk oolongs. If they actually taste thick and full bodied without having milk or cream present in them, it would be fantastic!

If you are looking for some very high quality teas on a student friendly budget (I’m there with ya) try TeaVivre www.teavivre.com they have two milk oolongs one is flavored one is a straight milk oolong. I personally like the straight one, but it doesnt have the thick full body taste, rather it is a milky aroma. The flavored one might be what youre looking for and they are running a sale on it right now.

I find that I don’t re-steep fruit teas and some of the stronger tasting black teas. I try to re-steep the more expensive teas for sure, especially those whites and oolongs!
