52 teas tea of the week

I am considering subscribing to one of the 52 teas tea of the week/month plans and I was just wondering if anyone else has done this and what their experience was. Their teas sound amazing!

Here is a link to 52 Teas here on steepster – you can see a lot of them – ratings, tea logs, etc. Hope this helps some

I myself have not enrolled in any “of the week / month” programs but if you like decadent teas and trying new things I would highly recommend them – company wise and tea quality wise.

Thanks! Finding their profile on steepster is actually what got me interested to begin with. Im just always so iffy about buying tea online.

I just committed to a 12month plan; what tipped me was the extra discount which ended 3/31. I do expect some teas I won’t like but there is not much that I absolutely hate so I am hopeful. You do save a bit jumping in whole hog. I just received my first 4 pouches for March and so far tried and enjoyed Pot O’ Gold. You are going to find comparables that are cheaper but price-wise 52teas are not that bad. I personally prefer to support indie industries and like knowing the face behind the product. Try a shorter trial and if it turns out fantastic, you could ask to extend it. I am looking forward to swapping 52teas and other teas with my new acquaintances here, so bring on the sampling!

I am currently enrolled in their monthly clubs, and was at one time enrolled in the weekly club. The biggest difference between these two is that with the weekly club, you get a package every week from 52Teas, and the monthly club, you get one package each month containing all four (or five, if there were five Mondays that month) teas of the week for the passing month.

I have seldom been disappointed with any of the teas that I’ve received from 52Teas … some I like better than others, and there may have been one or two that I really didn’t care for a whole lot, but, I’m usually able to find someone who does like them. For the most part, though, I enjoy subscribing because I don’t have to worry about a tea selling out before I have a chance to buy it … and that has happened before.

Thanks for all your input, I think Im going to start with 6 weeks. All their tea looks really good and the thought of getting a new tea delivered every week is very exciting!

I might be biased, but I think 52teas rocks. =)

Well, I can see you’ve already committed, but for anyone else reading the thread, then. I would never consider it, for two reasons (besides the fact that I’m kinda broke, but pretending for the moment that money isn’t an issue) entirely specific to me:

1) Allergens (self-explanatory, yes?)
2) Asthma (Frank seems to use Lapsang Souchong as a base with relative frequency, and the only Lapsang Souchong I’ve ever tried gave me an asthma attack, a headache and nausea. This made me wary of trying one again unless I can get it in a very small amount.)

I looked over his past history of teas and decided I didn’t want to risk ending up with several 1.5-2oz bags of tea a year that I’d find absolutely undrinkable for health reasons and would have to get rid of somehow through swaps or gifting. He’s already released two this year I wouldn’t have been able to drink. So if anyone has health concerns like that, I’d just look over his tea ingredients on Steepster and consider the ratio of teas he releases with those problematic ingredients before making a decision.

If it weren’t for that though, I’d think about it! I’ve liked the teas I’ve ordered from him so far, so I do not think you’re going to be really disappointed to go with the plan. Also, you should check out some of the permanent ones, Pancake Breakfast is amazing!

Likewise, this will probably only be useful to other people, but I figured I’d post it anyways. I ended up choosing not to go with a TOTW/M plan not for health reasons, but because I can be awfully picky sometimes. I dislike mint; and although I love sampling things, I suspect many of the teas would not be ones I’d want to drink repeatedly. If there was a way for me to get a sample size (15g or less) of every 52teas blend that came out, I would definitely go for it, but in my opinion, 2oz/over 50g of tea will be hard to use up if I don’t care for it, and I already have quite a lot of teas to finish off.

Therefore, instead of ordering the TOTW/M plans, I’m hoping to make friends with people who have, and wrangle samples out of them through swaps! (Or Frank, if you’re listening, you could make up small sampler packs and sell them yourself! I’m sure they’d fly off the shelves, but I can see how it might be a fair bit of effort.)
