Back when I was using tea to wean myself off of coffee, I would grate some fresh ginger into my black tea while it was steeping. That and a piece of peanut butter toast was a very effective start to my day. The fresh ginger was just really invigorating for me.

Thanks for all the info I will give it a try and let you know how it works for me - I drink tea and I have been drinking coffee in morning for a kick – just a small cup but it is what I need to get going - I am doing 50 of caffeine — I am used to the mental kick it gives and I might try mates again - I was thinking about it and I didn’t have my hot water brewer at the time when I originally tried them and I bet it affected the results of that kick —I don’t think I was brewing at the right temp and it really makes a difference in my results - I love my hot water brewer it really makes a wonderful tea or coffee —

For me there is nothing bettah than Verdant Laoshan Black sweet with cream or the V Laoshan Village Chai sweet with cream…oh my goodness the restrained spice in that blend and chocolate malt in both…is unbelievable. The best, best, best! I keep buying more like a hoarder!

Tea isn’t going to give you the same kick as coffee, because tea has polyphenols in it that buffer the effects of caffeine (hence, the “gentle nudge”) some tea is more invigorating than others, but if you’re looking for a caffeine jolt, you probably won’t find it in tea.

I usually start my day with a cup of Gunpowder green tea, plain. If I’m particularly sleepy in the morning, then I have a Pu-erh.

Guayusa has one of the highest caffeine content of any tea-like substance..it is also high in antioxidants (more than green tea) and has all your essential amino acids. I would say that’s a win in the morning!

Personally though, I drink any unflavoured oolong or black tea in the morning. I used to be a caffeine junkie, but I am scaling it back now.
