I finally did it, my first Verdant order! It was a bit out of my budget before but thanks to the coupon (and my generous bf who split the order with me) I’ve finally taken the plunge.

Phoenix Chocolate Chai 2oz
Eight Treasures Yabao 2oz
Cornfields Shu Tuocha 1oz
Mi Lan Xiang Phoenix Mountain Dancong sample
Laoshan Black sample
Laoshan White sample
Golden Fleece sample
Total with coupon & free shipping: $35.70

That coupon makes everything so tempting! I have had a tab on my internet open with an order that I have yet to actually place… I need to take the plunge as well!

It was the coupon + sample sizes that got me sucked in haha. Being able to try so many amazing teas for a pretty low price is just too tempting.

I know! I was so excited that they launched the sample sizes. I want to sample.. everything…!!

Alphakitty said 2012-08-21 21:15:12 -0400

I tried to limit myself to stuff that I KNOW I’ll like (spicy chocolate chai? corn pu-erh? YES PLEASE) and then samples of some of their teas that get fantastic ratings/types I think I’ll like. It was REALLY hard to not go over the $45 mark, there were tons tons more that I wanted to try.

Some seriously great teas there! I’m waiting for my order of Chocolate Chai and I haven’t opened my ounce of Golden Fleece even though I ordered it when it was released but the Laoshans, Eight Treasures and Cornfields are some of my favorites!

Small
Alphakitty said 2012-08-22 17:36:07 -0400

I am really excited for the Cornfields, I’ve had my eyes on it since March so it’s nice to finally know it’s coming home to me!

Okay, I did it! I finally ordered the Caramel Matcha from Red Leaf Tea as it is today’s Deal of the Day and 7.99 was just too irresistable. Plus, now I can get in on the matcha review program and maybe even get to try a few more. I’m super excited. Happy early birthday to me!

Happy Early birthday! I too am being tempted by the caramel matcha offer on right now…

Small
Uniquity said 2012-08-22 12:33:05 -0400

@Sil – it was the one I knew I wasn’t going to be able to refuse. Strawberry or caramel, I knew I’d give in. I’m weak! : )

Small
Sil said 2012-08-22 12:47:05 -0400

what strength/flavouring/matcha type etc did you go with?

Small
Uniquity said 2012-08-22 12:49:50 -0400

Since I’ve only ever had one unflavoured matcha and wasn’t madly in love with the natural falvour I opted to do the Robust level of flavouring for an additional $3.99. Otherise, I left everything standard (basic grade, small size, no tin) and it came to 13.50ish with shipping. I have numerous metal tins at home I can use to put it in, and I definitely don’t need a high quality matcha (at least not yet! :D)

You guys are tempting me so much. The thing is, matcha is hit or miss for me. I was thinking of just putting in a water bottle and drinking it cold. Has anyone done that?

Small
Missy said 2012-08-22 14:03:35 -0400

I have used cold water and my frother for matcha. I’m not sure if I can really describe a difference to you yet. I do think it’s a little more smooth taste wise.

Small
Uniquity said 2012-08-22 14:41:54 -0400

I’ve only done it hot so far – but more warm than hot. I find it cuts some of the strong vegetal notes. I would think it might not mix as well with cold water? Many people seem to have iced matcha lattes around here though. : )

Small
Mercuryhime said 2012-08-22 15:03:59 -0400

When in a tea desert, I’ve put matcha in a bottle of water and shook it up to mix. I drink a bit of the water to make room for froth. :) I like it better hot or in a latte but it’s good if you have no better option. You’ll also get lots of comments and questions on what you’re drinking.

I put myself on a no buy about 12 days ago after purchasing 52 Tea’s Apricot Cheesecake Shou Mei.

My no buy failed today.

At least I didn’t order much and got in on sales… but I was also limited on funds, which was good or I would of went nuts with huge orders.

Butiki Teas – 2 of the new teas sounded so yummy so I needed to have them! I also wanted to build up my guayusa stash.
Watermelon Xylophone $5.50
The Killer’s Vanilla $4.75
Good Morning Sunshine $4.50
$18.25 with shipping

Happy day today with Red Leaf Teas putting Caramel Matcha on sale! I’ve been obsessively checking their deals for the right matcha to come up and got super pumped this one was today’s deal!

Caramel Matcha – $7.99
(I got the ultra basic to start with)
$10.11 with shipping
Crap, now I need matcha gear. I guess a trip to Daiso is in order too for a whisk/etc.

Back on the no buy again. That or I need to kick my butt to generate more tea money.

Small
Mercuryhime said 2012-08-22 13:51:22 -0400

If you are short on funds, matcha gear is not necessary. It may be nicer to have properly whisked matcha, but I find my regular cooking whisk and soup bowl perfectly adequet. Usually, I’m lazy and just use a fork or spoon and a mug.

Small
Babble said 2012-08-22 13:59:35 -0400

Hey, 12 days is more than some of us make it for “no buy” periods – LOL.

Small
Alphakitty said 2012-08-22 17:37:15 -0400

Yeah, I’d say 12 days with no orders should be considered a victory!

Small
Azzrian said 2012-08-22 14:39:14 -0400

So many great orders! :)

Small
Alphakitty said 2012-08-22 17:48:24 -0400

Welp, I went for the Caramel Matcha too! It’s really because of how cheap the shipping is—only $2.12! So $10.11 total. I went with the bare minimum for my first order, just to see what the flavoring is like.

Yes I paid 47 cents for this due to his current promo!
I have three more from todays order to review yet.
People there is NO reason not to get this if you have the funds to place your first order with him.
This won’t last forever!

Small
LiberTEAS said 2012-08-22 18:50:42 -0400

I ordered the plum today too, as well as the cheesecake, the fig, and the boysenberry.

Small
Azzrian said 2012-08-22 19:22:25 -0400

I almost got fig! I know I will love cheesecake but was trying to make myself get some different flavors I may not normally try.

Small
Babble said 2012-08-22 19:35:41 -0400

So you were just saving up your free review credits? Is that how that worked?

Small
LiberTEAS said 2012-08-22 19:39:11 -0400

Yes, I know I will love the cheesecake too. I did that with the Hemp flavored tea last time – trying to make myself get something I wouldn’t normally try – but, this time, I went for the things I knew I loved. Next time, I’ll add another tea on there that I might not otherwise try… I definitely am going to have to get a new chawan though. The bowl that I’ll be using is a good size and shape, but, its made of a very thin, china-like porcelain and I don’t know that it will be ideal for Matcha. I tend to like the weightier bowls like the one I had been using. sigh

Small
Azzrian said 2012-08-22 19:39:12 -0400

Not sure exactly what you mean. I had initially placed an order for two matchas. I got those and reviewed them and got enough credit to get four more, I also purchased one so I got a total of five. Then I reviewed two today and got enough credit for the order I just listed. LOL Hope that made sense.
I still have three more to review from my last order and then of course can review the four on the way. So basically the more I review the more I get free or pretty much free.
But the reason I am getting SO MANY free is due to his most recent promo which is almost double the credit you would normally get.
My apologies if you were not even talking to me it occurred to me you may have been talking to LiberTEAS. lol

Azzrian said 2012-08-22 19:40:01 -0400

LiberTEAS I may grab the Rhishi matcha – dying to try that one!

Small
Babble said 2012-08-22 19:42:13 -0400

Sorry for the silly question, but how do you do the reviews that get you doubled the credit?

Thats not a silly question! I will find the thread and link it here.

Small
Azzrian said 2012-08-22 21:21:07 -0400

Which flavor did you get??

Small
Sil said 2012-08-22 21:32:04 -0400

The caramel one heh. That way I can do a review and pick up one of the other flavours if I decide that matcha is my thing. And if it isn’t…well I can do a reivew anyway and send the tea somewhere else haha

I got my first matcha as well! Couldn’t pass up the deal on the caramel. I got distinctive flavouring and basic matcha. I’m looking forward to doing reviews & receiving credits too! Azzrian, how do you notify red leaf once you’ve posted your review? Do you just send them a link to your post?

Small
Azzrian said 2012-08-22 22:30:28 -0400

Yay! Congrats! Yes just use the CONTACT US at the bottom of the screen on their site and let them know the links. Once they email you back you could save their email address but I usually just use the contact us link.
Be sure your word count is over the 800 some words as posted in the other thread (I forget exact words) also post a short review on their site under the tea flavor, and do a facebook or twitter post. I have also been leaving reviews on amazon for them as it really helps them a lot when you do.

Great, thanks :) I definitely want to do everything I can to help them out since they are so very generous with their reward program! Seems like a great company overall.
