World Tea Expo - I know it's last minute, but should I go?

So I just found out that students get in for free to the World Tea Expo. Wish I would have researched and found this out sooner, but at least I’m seeing it now.

I’m seriously considering going. I have Southwest miles I need to use, and the hotel isn’t too badly priced. I’m assuming it’s too late to find any room shares. I wish I didn’t live so far in Florida, but that’s how it goes.

I’m a big tea fan. I’m not a retailer or distributor, but I really like tea and I was intrigued by the idea of going to an expo about it. I’m also hoping for lots of free samples of tea and getting to try lots of new things. I probably won’t be able to afford any seminars, since I am just a college student.

Please tell me why this would or wouldn’t be a good idea. Thanks :)

Good idea – life is about the experiences! You could spend the time and money on some THING but that THING will be gone in time, be it used or broken or become obsolete in your basement but what will always be with you are your life experiences! Make the best of it – even if you can’t go to a seminar! You never know what you may get to be a part of that you know you won’t be if you sit at home! You have the free miles so air fare is nothing, just be sure you have a hotel room booked or check into other options for places to stay. Travel safe and have a great time! :)

Thanks for your enthusiasm! Have you been to the world tea expo before?

And I can definitely relate to spending money on “things” and not really having much to show for. Over the years I’ve come to value experiences more than stuff.

No I have never been myself – I have only become immersed in the world of loose leaf in the last few months :) I would love to go one day though!

Ahh okay. Well if I go I’ll let you know how it is. Very tempted, but I’m worried it may be more geared towards businesses than tea fans like myself.

Lets see if you get other responses I suppose. You may be right!
Still find something to use those miles on! :)

I would definitely go if I were in your shoes. It could be a great learning experience, and as you mentioned, you might be able to acquire some samples, or learn of some new teas and tea companies that are up and coming, and have a look at some interesting teaware and gadgets.

If you do go, please post a trip report when you return! :)

If I do go, I would love to do a write-up for a company or even go on behalf of a company. Too bad i’m deciding this a couple days before. d’oh!

I’d say this is an opportunity you shouldn’t pass up. If it’s not going to hit your wallet too hard then what do you have to lose? You will get to see new companies, tea ware and teas! Sampling many different teas just seems too good to walk by in my head. I’m thinking you’ll get to meet all sorts of interesting people who share your love of tea. Sounds like a win win situation in my head. :D

If I had the time and the money I would definitely go. I think it would be a great experience to go and if you do go you’ll have to tell us about it!

I can tell you if it is anything like their “smaller” event in Philly in the Fall you will need to bring an extra bag for all the samples! It is worth the trip even though I’ve not been to the Vegas location. I would go if I were in your shoes!

Ooh, sounds enticing! Are you in the tea retail industry or part of the media?

I went last year to the Philly event as a blogger. But I opened my own super small tea business last Dec. It is still developing at the moment. :)

It’s geared entirely towards business: “Who Should Attend?
More than 4,500 retailers, tea room and coffee shop owners, chefs and F&B managers, grocers, spa directors, wellness professionals and distributors attend to see 200+ premium tea and related suppliers exhibit new products and innovations. More than 40% of these suppliers exhibit no where else; attending World Tea Expo is an exclusive opportunity to visit these vendors.” http://www.worldteaexpo.com/index.php/attend

Still, it sounds really interesting and I thought about going last year, but I was deterred by their policy- “World Tea Expo is open to members of the trade and press only.” : http://www.worldteaexpo.com/index.php/policies

I don’t know how strictly they enforce that policy-maybe all you need to do is say “I’m thinking of opening a tea shop” or “I am a tea blogger”." However, registration must be done in person so I would contact someone with the organization to make certain you can attend before you fly out there.

It’s a trade show for wholesalers and retailers, I’ve been but I didn’t know that the general public could go. It’s always been solely for the trade.

so Rachel did you go?
can you attend if you aren’t with a company or business?
World Tea East is held in Philadelphia and i used to live there so I’m always looking for a reason to visit again.
