Post your BUGS for the recent Steepster update here!

For a moment there, it didn’t seem like the ‘like’ heart-shaped button was registering a change when I selected it (it was not changing to a red-colored heart). Now it’s working OK (although it doesn’t ‘swirl’ as it did before).

Is anyone else having trouble with, uh, ANYTHING?

I haven’t encountered any problems with the like button since the latest Steepster update.

NO!!!! What has happened to Steepster?! Thankfully I managed to log in, but ALL my notices regarding comments on my/others’ posts are completely gone, which is terrible because I haven’t been caught up lately… ACK! :( :( :(

Really? That’s sad. :(

The site went down for a period of time this afternoon (I believe to do some updates). Thankfully, for me at least, it seems that all of my old ‘lingering’ notices are now cleared out (I had a red “7” over my notices tab on my dashboard even if all of my notices were ‘old’); it may be that they moved/changed/deleted the previous location where all the information on notices was stored (that would be one possible reason your notices are now gone, Krystaleyn).

It also looks like the font color for discussion threads marked as ‘read’ has changed (for me).

Here a couple of tweets on Twitter; one about 6 hours ago: “We’re down for maintenance. Getting ready for some much needed system updates. Expect much faster load times when we get back!” and one about 4 hours ago: “If you’ve accessed Steepster in the past 24 hours you might not be able to see the updated site until tomorrow ~4pm EST. Issues with DNS…” DNS I believe stands for Domain Name Server (network jargon).

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see …

ADDITION Weird, the like button isn’t working for me again …

The notices alert numbers should be cleared (the little red numbers on the notices tab) but the notices activity should be there…is it still gone? However, there’s now a time limit on how long the activity in the notices tab will stay there (1 month). Was the activity that you had there older than 1 month?

Kittenna said

Nope, the activity I was looking for was from the past week, if that. The only notices that were there from before sometime last night were notices about comments on discussion posts.

Jason select said

Hmm, we’ll have to look into that. But going forward it should work as expected.

Yeah, the Like button doesn’t work for me at all.

Also, I agree the notices page changed drastically. It deleted all my notices that said when people had liked one of my tea reviews! :( And now it only says when someone has posted a comment on a tea that I have liked (ie. someone else’s tasting note), but even most of those notices have been deleted as well. And by most I mean about 99% of my notices have disappeared. It also says when people posted a reply to discussions that I’m not following…weird.

I like the addition of the “Tea Rooms Reviewed” to the dashboard, but I liked the old Notices page better.

Jason select said

Just to clarify we didn’t intentionally change any thing with the notices, but it looks like not all of them may have made the transfer to the new server :(. We’ll keep looking into it but otherwise, moving forward it should behave as it did before.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that if you have to click the “See More” button, none of those notices will be in bold even if they are new and contributing to the new notices number.

Jason select said

Hmm, that one might take longer to fix. We’re not currently able to do that given a bug that’s out of our control.

Hmm, that’s too bad. Oh well. I guess I shouldn’t let the notices pile up like I do! ;)

I told the steepster overlords about this on facebook but I wanted to mention it here in case anyone else was having this problem:

I was just poking around to see what’s changed (my "like"s are working fine, btw), and I noticed that when I click on my Cupboard the counts of the number of times I’ve logged a tea are way off. I haven’t logged Teavivre’s Bailin Gongfu 61 times (I wish!), and I’ve also logged Dammann Freres’ Coquelicot Gourmand many times, but it reads as “Not logged yet”. Fortunately it just seems to be an error in the log counts on this page, but not on the actual tea page (so there aren’t logs on teas that in my cupboard but I haven’t actually logged, and all my other logs seem to be present on teas reading “Not logged yet”).

My cupboard has the correct number of times drunk, but it’s not sorting correctly. If I sort by “most drank” it displays by “recently added” instead.

Actually, it sorts correctly if I go to something else and then back to “most drank.” It’s just the first time I load the cupboard that it doesn’t work.

Like button still doesn’t work though, egads! (Of course, it’s only been an hour but I’m impatient. :P I’m on a Mac too by the way. I don’t know if that makes a difference. I’ll try on my PC tonight.)

@Dinosara The number of times you drank should be corrected now, thanks for the heads up. Still looking into the remaining issues… thanks for your patience everyone!

Thanks!

Mine is doing the same thing that CHAroma’s is doing with the sorting. Initially it doesn’t sort right on the cupboard, but if I sort by something else and go back to Most Drank it is accurate.

The log counts are definitely not right on my Ratings page when I sort by “Most logged”… I can’t see what they are but I know Harney’s Viennese Earl Grey is not my most logged!

Thanks so much for all the updates, guys, I totally understand that there will be a few bugs to work out on something like this!

On both my Macs (two different OS’s) running Safari my “like” button works.

My ‘logged’ counts are right, and there appear to be no issues with sorting, for me at least.

Seems to me this has been fixed now. Everything in the cupboard is working correctly for me.

The “like” button seems to work sporadically for me.

My # of times logged are also way wrong for a few of my teas, but definitely right for others (maybe 3-4 teas on page 1 of my cupboard are wrong; I haven’t checked the rest). It almost looks like the # showing in my cupboard might be the total # that anyone has logged it? (ex. Chance Combinations “Drank 46 times”).

It appears that when I click through to the tea’s page it’s correct though (same as Dinosara) – for example Teavivre’s White Peony says “drank 52 times” in my cupboard but on the page http://steepster.com/teas/teavivre/21998-white-peony-bai-mudan-tea it says “rate and review this tea” under “add tasting note,” which indicates I have not logged it (this is correct. I only have a 1 serving sample and have not tried it, therefore not logged it.)

I’m on a mac using firefox. it looks like the “like” is working for me now.
Cupboard “x time drank” looks fixed too. Thanks for the quick fixes Mike, Jason, and all the Steepster team! Overall, the site looks great and feels “refreshed.”

To me it looks like all old notices have just been wiped and we’re all starting with a clean slate on that count. The few I’ve had since then show all the same sorts of notices I got before. People who liked my posts and people who commented on posts I liked. The only difference is that all of them show up with that person’s icon instead of the little heart for likes, for example.

Angrboda said

That said, though, it would be nice if the new ones were still bolded like they used to be.

Also by the way, THANK YOU for the change on the discussion board giving read threads a different font colour. It’s MUCH easier to tell them apart now.

Jason select said

Glad you’re liking the changes on the discussion boards, we thought some people would :).

For the user avatars we’ll have to take a look. We didn’t make an intentional change for that, but a lot of that code was refactored and it looks like that was affected.

Angrboda said

It’s back to normal now, except for new ones not bolding.

I’m a little torn on it, honestly. I thought it was fun to see everybody’s icons, but I also really like to be able to tell the types of notices apart at a glance. Out of the two I guess I prefer the latter, but… :)

ETA: Well, I think it’s back to normal. Can’t actually seem to make the tab load this morning. I click and I click and nothing happens. So I can’t really properly check it.

Ok, my PMs are still completely out of order. Also, I’ve noticed that both in emails and in the previews of messages in my inbox, I’m seeing that weird set of characters instead of an apostrophe (and other related errors); e.g.

‘I used to think that very often in the past… finally, I just subscribed. Yeah, it’s a big chunk of change every three months, but, it results in far less guilt: some guilt every three…’ (from the most recent discussion post email I received).

Also, I’d prefer to have the entire message emailed to me, not just a tiny portion.

Jason select said

Krystaleyn, are your PMs still messed up?

Kittenna said

Yes. Also, I received new PMs from someone and did not receive email notifications. I think it’s somehow set backwards, where I am notified about messages I write but not the ones I receive.

jLteaco said

Exactly same problems as Krystaleyn did. PMs are out of order and not being noticed with new emails.

My like button is working sporadically…

I just tried posting a review and I got a server error. I thought it was lost but I had to log out and log back in to see it. Definitely some strange-ness going on. I don’t actually mind that I’m not getting notified everytime someone “likes” one of my posts.

Kittenna said

I don’t mind not being notified of ‘likes’ either. When I was new, I was stoked to see them, but now I don’t even look at them, except to be amused when I see a series of consecutive ‘likes’ of my last 15 logged teas by someone who has been off Steepster for a while.
