My notices aren’t working at the moment. They were fine earlier, but now it’s perma-stuck on a little red (1) bubble. The page just won’t load in general for me.
Another change I have observed: the ‘new’ notices on my Notices page used to be highlighted/bold-ed in such a way that they stood out from the ‘old’ notices (defined by the last time I went to—or loaded—the Notices page). I really liked that feature; if there were lots of new notices it helped me to keep track of which notices (or events) I had attended to (usually meaning, viewed), and which ones I didn’t. I am hoping there is a plan to ‘fix it’ such that the new notices will be highlighted/bold-ed as they were before.
Oh well; change always seems to come with a few speed bumps. It’ll likely take some time to work out the kinks, but I’m sure the improvements will be worth it!
We had some issues with one of the new servers, which likely caused the issues people were having with lots of the features not working. Those should be resolved now, but we’re still having issues with the hosting company and pages loading slowly. Once the hosting company resolves those we should be able to see a truer version of the updates. But keep the bug reports coming if you see something.

Random note – all my emails from Steepster are going into my Spam. I have no idea why; they never did before!
I was wondering what happened to emails. All mine are in the spam folder too. I just added the notify email address to my contact list and if it still doesn’t work Gmail also suggests creating a filter: http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=6579#0 I already shut my brain off for the rest of the week so hopefully the contact thing works.
We’re thinking this might be because we’re using a new hosting company/server now the IP is changed. But your email client is used to seeing them coming from the old IP, so it’s flagging all of them. There’s not much more we can do to prevent this. Probably the best thing is to just mark them as “not spam” whenever you see it happen.
I marked 35 emails from Steepster as ‘not spam’ in one go the other day. At that point Gmail had only let one or two emails through. Haven’t had a single one go into spam since then. So Gmail at least learns quickly. It was very rare before that I found a Steepster email in the spam folder.
Likewise, I marked a few as ‘not spam’ and haven’t had a problem since. I routinely go through my spam anyhow, so will catch any remaining errant ones.
Ok, another weird thing – I’m getting email notifications of messages I send to other people. Like, it says ‘Krystaleyn sent you a message’… but I am Krystaleyn!
I am having troubles logging in to the site on my iphone. This is very unfortunate because most of the time, because this is where I have been using steepster the most :(
I also noticed that my pm’s are out of chronological order.
You might still have problems for another hour or so. Post here if the problem doesn’t go away after a little while.
Can you try going to Settings >> Safari and clicking on Clear History and Clear Cookies and Data. It seems to work on my iPhone.
Tried that, still doesn’t work. It either takes me back to the log in page, or it goes back to the home page
Jason, et al: Can someone post some kind of list as to what the new features are? It doesn’t have to be fancy.
I don’t exactly understand how to take advantage of some of the ‘new features’. I’m really glad updates are happening, I simply want to know how to use them.
btw, I also noticed that the, Which new features do you want the most? thread shows that it has a new post, but it’s still locked. Will that thread become unlocked anytime soon?
ADDITION: On the Notices tab, clicking on the ‘notice’ that someone has posted something new to a thread I am subscribed to does not take me directly to their post, it simply takes me to the topic page of that thread.
2nd ADDITION (I don;t want to keep sending new notices, so for now I’m just appending the things I find, here) this URL http://steepster.com/dashboard?notices does not take me to the notices tab on my dashboard (as it used to). Instead it takes me to the Tasting Notes tab/page.
It isn’t really new features, more updating the entire system so that we can add new features and restoring features that haven’t been working for a while. That includes things like slow load times, notices number getting stuck, password reset not working, etc.
I unlocked the feature suggestion thread. Not sure why it got locked in the first place.
Logged the issue about activity notices not linking to the particular activity, but to the overall discussion/tasting note they were added to.
The notices link was an actual change (for simplicity sake, since we didn’t think people used it that way). I’ll add it to the list for things to look into. Just so I’m aware, in what situation are you using that link? Did you use that to bypass the main dashboard screen and go directly to your notices?
Thanks for the clarification on what the new update has done. Certainly, having faster load times was the #1 priority for me. :)
I think that the Which new features do you want the most? thread was locked because a ‘spamming bot’? was hitting it months back (as it was hitting some of Franks threads).
I never though of it in that way, but it appears that, yes, I was using the link to bypass the main dashboard screen and go directly to my notices. Really, though,it’s OK as it is now (I simply have to click on the Notices tab now, where I didn’t before). You have much bigger fish to fry, anyway. Thank you for addressing my concerns!
Is this the preferred method of communicating with you about issues I find, or would you rather I e-mail you or contact you in some other way if I find any other issues?
At least for now. Once we get past the initial rough patch email will be better.
I’m having all sorts of wonky problems, but the messages are the hardest to navigate. They’re not in order at all! I also got a few new ones that didn’t pop up as being new (I found them when scrolling through to send something—which on the plus side wasn’t working last night but now is).
Notices aren’t working properly for me either, I’ve had 8 for about 24 hours now.

I found yours! Of course, I found them AFTER I sent the first one (since they were in the middle of 2 others about shipping costs!), but at least it’s sort of working now. I kept trying yesterday and got tons of error messages.
We’re aware of the number on new private messages icon not working, but we’ll have to check out the chronological order problem. Are you subscribed to this discussion? Do you get activity notices for it?
DId you get mine yesterday?!?! That’s crazy! I’d advise you to lay everything out if you can to let things air out a tad. The box probably smelled like chai.
Yes, I am subscribed, and I am receiving emails and notices when there’s a reply. Although I’m headed off now, I’ll be back later to post more teas :D
Still having the problem? I subscribed to a number of new threads and have been getting the notices and emails.
Everything looks ok to me now, except I’m not going through my notices until I have enough time to do so (but they were working last I tried, and I hear the bolding is back now).
In general, is the site faster for people?
It has been intermittent all afternoon. Sometimes quick, sometimes hanging (but not like it did a couple weekends ago, where it took 5-15 minutes to load a page), and sometimes I get the kettle. Or an error page.
Good question. It’s hard to say, but I think it’s faster for me (on a Windows 7 PC with Firefox 13.0). The main thing is that pages aren’t hanging—or not loading at all—as they were before (that was very frustrating, for me at least).

Our host was down/having issues from 11am EST until 1pm EST so that may have accounted for some of the hiccups. Has the site been better since then?
I just took a quick run-through of all six pages on online tea retaliers (this used to take lots of time for each page to load), and all pages loaded pretty fast.
I also went though my cupboard, sorted by company name, and holly cow, it was lightening fast! That was one of the things that took a ton of time to load. Interestingly enough, though, it states that I have 151 teas (which is about what it was, I’m not for certain as I recently removed a few teas from it), but there are only three pages worth of teas that are available (opposed to what I think should be seven).
Oh, and the posts are loading very fast for me (it used to hesitate for a time before posting, or making a change).
Good idea for a means to check load times, SimpliciTEA! I just looked at my tea ratings page, and yes, it’s crazy fast! Used to always hang for at least 30 seconds or so, even before the site-wide problems. There’s a massive delay of maybe two seconds now (I kid, obviously. It’s awesome!)
Oh – I have the same problem with my cupboard. Only can view three pages, and I have like 250 teas.
I can also only see 3 pages of my cupboard. I have 130+ teas.
Generally, the site seems faster now.

Ok, another issue that is important to me. It used to be that regardless of when you started typing your Tasting Note, the time it was actually posted determined the chronological order in which it would appear in someone’s dashboard (although the “X minutes ago” was based on the time you started writing). It now appears that said chronological order is now determined by the time someone starts writing their tasting note, which is an issue because people like me who take a while to write notes or leave it open for a while will have their note posted back a ways into the posts everyone has already read, which means nobody will read it!
Really? Wow. I’m with you on being bummed about that. I am also V E R Y S L O W at composing my posts. Normally (unless it’s a quick one or two liner), I compose my posts in a word processor, then go and post a reply (although, I’m not doing that now). : }
I would rather the order be based, as you said above, on actual posting time.
I think in my tealog it had always arranged things in order of when I clicked on each “write a tasting note” thing, but how many times do you have multiple notes ongoing at the same time? (I do sometimes, but I’m likely an exception) So it doesn’t matter there, but does on the Dashboard, as I keep finding ‘unliked’ posts amongst ones I’ve already liked.
Hmmm, I don’t think I have ever had multiple notes ongoing at the same time.

Unliked posts? Interesting. I’ll have to see I’m getting those too (it may be because you or someone else is selecting the ‘like’ heart/button multiple times, esp. if selecting it doesn’t ‘register’ in your/their browser.
Ooh, I like the font size change! And no, they’re both unliked and unread, as in I haven’t encountered them before, yet I’ve read and liked both flanking posts. Happened with one from… Invader Zim’s Coconut Pouchong review?? And… someone else… maybe Ian’s Citrus Sage review.
